26 Days till Christmas — Tim Horton’s 1990 Christmas Ad

Posted by & filed under Canadian Deals & Coupons.

Here’s a vintage 1990 Christmas ad  spot for Tim Horton’s back when commercials were not as cheesy, when Tim Horton’s chain was Canadian and when they used to sell Cakes!

Why doesn’t Timmies sell cakes anymore?

Yeah Tims cakes use to be really good! Everything now is pre-ordered and pre-measured and all they do is pop it in the oven or whatever for a set time. Anyone notice how uniformed and how much smaller their donuts are compared to 10 years ago?

    1. Tim Hortons stopped making cakes because people could buy them cheaper at the grocery store

    2. Tim Hortons is a Canadian company

    3. The New Donuts are consistent now. Prior to the new baking process there was no way to guaranty the quality of the product.

I didnt even know Tim Hortons ever sold cakes. I guess that’s because I was only 3 and living in the United States in 1990.…

Did you know they also used to make pies? Coconut, banana, and chocolate cream as well as berry pies.
They don’t make cakes because they took too much time and they had to have an employee make/decorate them. Now they just order pre-made stuff in individual portions that can be kept frozen. Taking a few pieces of brownie/tarts out per day cuts down on waste. I used to have to throw out so much cake…

CN Rail, Bauer, Cooper, CCM, Hudson’s Bay, Seagram, Corel, Molson, Dofasco, Alcan, Canadian Pacific hotels and Tim Hortons are all Canadian institutions.

Which are either wholly or majority held by American or Foreign owners.

The Santa cake would be a nice addition to a a free Santa letter from bestsantasletter.com. Luckily I got the letter for free now I have to find the cakes for kids :)

    Merry Christmas

Tim Hortons was sold to Wendys USA in 1995 and then was split off and is now a publically traded company. The largest shareholder is the company itself making it a CANADIAN owned company, During the Wendys merger the company was entirely run out of the Canadian office.

Anyone have a recipe duplicating the vanilla/white icing/frosting Tim Horton’s used to use on their cakes?
