Here are some Shoppers Drug Mart events that are coming up soon in February that you can all prepare for! I know the bonus redemption gets a lot of people excited.

February 6 to 12, 20X the points!!
Collect 20X the optimum points when you spend $75 or more on cosmetics, fragrances and skincare.

February 13 to 14, Bonus Redemption!!!
Receive an extra $25 when you redeem 40,000pts and an extra $50 when you redeem 75,000pts.

Accumulate the points you need to achieve the top levels in order to redeem on the weekend of Valentine’s day. This would be a perfect time to purchase all you’re Valentine’s Day presents. Also, perfume is a common Valentine’s Day present for us ladies and SDM is known to have perfume specials going on during this time, so it’s a good time to get that 20x points as well.

Thanks to masutaichi for sharing this offer with us!

Awww, $75? I could’ve maybe done 50, not not 75. Guess I’ll wait for the next bonus redemption…

  2. The_Scarecrow

I hope this isn’t too early for the redemption cuz I just got my Optimum MC last week. Anyone know how long I have to wait before they add 15,000 pts from my first purchase of the Mastercard? I hope it isn’t 6–8 weeks, but it probably is.

  3. Rad

    Hi,

It took me 4 weeks to get it, after my first statement it was added.

It suks cuz they say after the first purchase you get them, but not really.

    LIARS!

I’m sorry if this is a dumb question, but I’ve never done a redemption before. Can you redeem for gift cards?
I’m asking because if you have 75K in points i think that s $150 and then you get another $50? I can’t see spending that much at shoppers in one go…

  5. Nancy

You are not able to redeem points for gift cards — I have tried and they do not allow it.

  6. Sampler

Can u buy something worth atleast two hundred and then return it to get the return on a gift card ? … I don’t think I want /can get a good deal on those days …

  7. mcminsen

Receive an extra $25 when you redeem 40,000pts and an extra $50 when you redeem 75,000pts.”

This would be so great if it were true for the whole country. I’ve got my hopes up! :-) :-) :-)

    Sampler says:

Can u buy something worth atleast two hundred and then return it to get the return on a gift card ? … I don’t think I want /can get a good deal on those days … ”

You might be able to do that, but use your own discretion. It has been suggested before that even if you can do it once or more, that SDM will track those kinds of returns and I think you’d be edging into dangerous territory if you did it repeatedly. SDM reserves the right to take your points away if they feel you’ve been abusing their points system. Personally, I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t really need to.

  9. Sampler

Sorry I didn’t explain well … I have 75000 points already and interested to redeem to get 50 $ more but never seem to want anything there on those days … I was thinking of buying a camera and then return it just so I can get the $50 more ? But now I’m thinking I won’t get the bonus 10,000 points back from doing this … But what if my return was legit ? That I bought it as a gift and my friend already has one now … ?

  10. Sara

Does anyone know if Shoppers still does the really big redemption bonuses? I seem to remember a few events where if you spent the maxiumum level of bonus points, you got most of them back again. I redeemed mypoints to the maxiumum level twice in one day thanks to an event like this!

  11. mcminsen

Sampler, you say “I was thinking of buying a camera and then return it just so I can get the $50 more ?”

That’s manipulative and it would be abusing the points program and the trust and good will of the store. Just because we CAN take advantage of something doesn’t mean we should. Shame on you.

  12. ladybug

I hardly think we’d be abusing the “good will” and “trust” of SDM if we bought something and returned it to get the 50$ more on redemption day. I’m pretty sure they work it so that we are not the ones taking advantage.

  13. Vivi

The extra $50 is normally not available across Canada it’s only a regional promotion (in Qc, Alta., Sask., Ont., Man.). In at least half of the country it’s only an extra $20 which is nothing to get too excited about.…

  14. CarlyinCanada

Wooohooot! I was hoping for bonus redemption day soon! Just got to 75,000 points! I so want Chanel No5 perfume & just in time for Valentines Day, treat for me! :)

Rad, try using some bonus coupons, like buy 2 Airwick candles get 1000 points or others that have been posted…or buy a GC…

  15. Rad

I have a question, is it $200 before taxes or after. So, if i buy something for $180 plus tax, lets say $205. Will the $200 (75, 000) points be taken off? Or is it $200 plus tax? I hope i don’t have to may $26 out of my own pocket :|

    THX

  16. mcminsen

Rad, you’ll be out of pocket for the taxes. It’s one of the little catches that is not given much attention when people say “Yahoo, I’m getting $200 of free stuff!”

So, if you get $200 of free stuff then you pay the taxes on that. How much you pay in taxes depends on where you live and what you buy.

Oh, and be sure to get the maximum discount for the amount that you’re redeeming. Otherwise you’re wasting points. If you don’t want to pay tax, then buy stuff that doesn’t have tax on it. A ton of food?

  17. Rad

oh great idea, i’m prob going to get a camera tho. :S lol

    Thanks again,

    –Rad
