A Lottery Winner

On SC’s forum we were discussing how we would spend our money if we won the jackpot.

Brad Duke pocketed a lump sum of $85 million after winning a Powerball jackpot in 2005. I like the way he’s spending his money and would probably do the same (although I think he should give a bit more to charity)

Here’s how Brad spends his money

There once was a man who wanted to win the lottery. He prayed several times each day, “Lord, let me win the lottery.” He prayed like this day after day after day: “Lord, let me win the lottery.” The man had determination and perseverance. He prayed like this for weeks and months and years—everyday the same prayer: “Lord, let me win the lottery.” Finally in an exasperated tone, the man hears the voice of God say, “Look, I heard you already. But help me out. At least buy a ticket!

To be honest I don’t often play the lottery, I do from time to time when the prize amount gets sufficient enough that I notice the ticket buying frenzy.

Truth be told I don’t think I have a lottery win in store in my life time, so playing to win is not part of my game play for life… However, it is still nice to dream. I’m not really sure what I’d do, I know many people make a deal with their god, that if they were to win they’d use the money for good. I’m not sure that that sort of deal really works. Myself, I think I understand money, and that rich or poor we all have issues with it; often we have “money wounds”. I’m a modest individual who likes a simple life, that isn’t overly complicated, I don’t see how having too much money can’t be in some way complicated.

    John D Rockefeller wrote…

The only thing which is of lasting benefit to a man is that which he does for himself. Money which comes to him without effort on his part is seldom a benefit and often a curse. That is the principal objection to speculation–it is not because more lose than gain, though that is true–but it is because those who gain are apt to receive more injury from their success than they would have received from failure. And so with regard to money or other things which are given by one person to another. It is only in the exceptional case that the receiver is really benefited. But, if we can help people to help themselves, then there is a permanent blessing conferred.

Some would say that I am just making up justifications to my self as to why I don’t have lots of money. I’m not allergic to it. I’d hope a win of money would make my life more comfortable. I’ve even told my boss that if I did win that I’d still like to keep on working for him, with slightly modified hours. He suggests I get a personal assistant…

Truth is I’d also want to make the lives of those closest to me comfortable too, I figure I could probably do that for about $4,000,000, the rest would be superfluous and I’d want to give it to charity, but I would do it as a trust which I can have a hand in overseeing.

I also told Boo that I’d probably buy me one of them there expensive auto mo-biles, but I’d make sure mine came with one of dem turn signal thingamajiggies.
