Actually, all of the Star Wars fanatics I know aren’t going near this set as George Lucas has made unnecessary, silly changes to the film AGAIN. I think everyone is waiting for the original film release on blu-ray. 🙂
“regular $179.99” is such a lie. Currently, Futureshop has it at $79.99, but it goes up to regular price of $89.99 in a few days. Wal-Mart: currently $84.95. I love how amazon exaggerates the “regular” prices on many of their items.
Yes, George made changes, meh. It doesn’t affect my enjoyment of the movies one iota (ok maybe that musical number in Jabba’s Palace irks me a bit).
I almost bought this at Walmart for 84.99 as part of the anniversary sale, but instead I bought collections 1-3 and 4-6 seperately at 34.99 each… Definitely a good deal from Amazon!

I fluked out… I had my complete saga edition pre-ordered from Amazon.com (US site) since May… originally listed at $84.99. I completed my order back then so as to be eligible for their pre-order price guarantee (which is you get it for the lowest price between the time you place your order and the release date). Besides, one can always cancel it provided it hasnt begun shipping.
When it shipped, I was notified of the pre-order price gurantee and the lowest price since May was $34.99 (for the complete saga edition, no less)
I got mine today (shipped to my US address not far from home) and I picked it up this evening… what a treat!
$79.99 from Best Buy as well until Sep 18 and you get a free t-shirt in-store.
Hardcore fans have boycott this set, they are waiting(and so should everyone) wait to get the Unaltered Original Trilogy on Blu Ray. Don’t give George Lucas any more money until he releases a proper set.

I’m a hardcore fan, and I’m not boycotting this set… but i *am* petitioning hard for the original release versions to be released.
In the meantime, that doesnt mean I’m about to piss away everything this set has to offer.
