Not that great of a deal… you only get about 2 bucks worth of airmiles… Not discouraging this deal, just saying there are better ones to be had. (for example Spend $7 on juice in safeway this week and earn 50 airmiles)

I agree with you sniperc151 that there is better deals out there, but if you are going there and are spending that much anyway, you may as well get something bonus for free. I was going there anyway today, so this is just a bonus!

  3. Wayne says:

That’s weired that HBC would offer Air Miles when they have their own rewards program. Odd!

    Not so weird actually.

When you convert HBC/Z points to AirMiles you lose 50% purchasing value. This saves HBC/Z money.

Now I saw the offer as 30,000 points not 40,000 but regardless here’s the math:

    30,000 HBC/Z points = $3.75 (40,000 = $5)

15 AMs on average = $2.10, however when specifically used to buy HBC/Z gift cards through AirMiles = $1.875

    $1.875/$3.75 = 0.50 a 50% loss

    If it is 40,000 then $1.875/$5 = .375 a 62.5% loss of purchasing power.

    Never convert HBC/Z to AMs.

Better to use HBC/Z points to buy HBC/Z gift cards in store.

Use “unconverted” AMs from other sources to buy HBC/Z gift cards at AirMiles to get maximum purchasing power.
