I was unimpressed with last year’s “SPC Double Discount Day”. I hit the malls with the specific intent of shopping at SPC stores – 7 out of the 8 I visited knew nothing about this promotion and denied me a double-discount. I even called SPC, but their offices were closed on the Saturday. Wondering if anyone else had positive experiences last year? Or similar troubles?

Champs at Carlingwood in Ottawa, didn’t know, even though there was a sign about it in there own store. She called her store manager, he told her about it, but I didn’t get double discount on my shoes because they were “excluded”

i had the EXACT same problem as marketing guy.

went to the store, went to pay and when i mentioned it, i was given wierd looks, no one knew about it, and was denied the double discount.

they told me that i should bring in a printout of the event from the SPC website, i would advise others to do this, this year!

    eeeek
SPC is kinda failing this year – don’t know if anyone saw my reply in GUESS post, SPC advertised 20% discount last Friday, however Guess is no longer part of SPC

I would advise every time you encounter issues with stores, email SPC. They forwarded my email to GUESS and they were very nice about and are sending me a 15% discount coupon.

    Hi FunkyMunky,

What email would that be for SPC? This ManchuWok place is denying me by SPC discount if I pay by credit card – I have the BMO SPC credit card, and only valid if by cash. I don’t get to have my cash back on the card, ridiculous service.

Honestly, the SPC concept is great in theory; weak in practice. They need to improve communication with their retail partners about rules for 1) Regular SPC card (show Student ID); SPC VIP Card (no ID req’d); and SPC MasterCard (no ID req’d). I know that a lot of people get hassled for different reasons with these different cards. And as everyone above mentioned, they need to be 100% clear with retailers about promotions – when they occur, and what they apply towards. Perhaps a print-at-home coupon to back up each promotion would be a good idea.

Just as a follow-up FYI, when I pre-ordered my SPC card online this year ($10 + $1.5 S&H), they had their “double reward” promo on. So I received 2x “$10 off $30 purchase” cards for Pizza Hut. I’ve managed to used them both over the past month, though NEITHER Pizza Hut retailer (managers included) knew anything about these coupons. Get it together, SPC!

I agree that SPC does need to improve communications. Once I’m no longer a student, I feel that I will encounter a lot of issues from retailers who don’t know that the card can be used by non-students. Perhaps a name change is in order to reduce confusion.

How long has the SPC card been around? This is the first time I’ve heard of it. I’m getting mine with my Lou Lou magazine subscription but I’m wondering since I’m not a student, will the VIP SPC card be made available from year to year to purchase if it’s not available each year as a bonus to Lou Lou subscribers.

Joshua – I emailed their general email, and they resent my email to GUESS

try that – however they don’t accept VISA period, nothing to do with it being an SPC VISA, I always show them my regular SPC card and pay cash and get a discount

Does the super store accept the SPC card?
