Of those of you who are unfamiliar with Zip.ca, it is an online DVD rental site for Canadians.  The benefits are that there are no late fees, due dates and shipping is always free.  It’s actually a pretty good site, especially if you live in a small town with a crappy video store.  There is a two week free trial period when you sign up but this deal is even better, you get a whole month of DVDs for Free when you use coupon code TWITTER.   This deal is only good for new members to Zip.ca.  The other great thing is that you can cancel your membership anytime so if you’re not happy after you free month you can cancel without a penalty.  If you decide to keep using Zip.ca there are rental plans ranging from $10.95-$36.95 per month depending on how many DVDs you would like to take out at a time.

Click here to sign up for Zip.ca and get a Free month of entertainment.

I used this service for a while a few years back. I did find it to be handy, but in the end I probably didn’t watch enough movies/tv to justify the cost and not having the right movie at the right time turned out to be troublesome. Imagine it’s Friday and you’re looking forward to a new rented movie that night with someone. You’ve ordered it on zip a few days or even a week before planning for tonight. You check your mail and for some reason it is delayed and didn’t come or they sent you another selection from your list because they were out of stock on the new one that you really wanted?

What do you do? Depends on how laid back you and the other people watching the movie are I guess. There’s bound to be some dissapointment though and you may even end up going out to rent that movie at the video store anyway.

Good service for sure, but it definitely has some holes. It may have improved since then … I have no idea really.

In reference to Stephen’s post, I agree that it’s hard to get movies you want at a specific time. However, you’ll find this with any online movie rental service and even physical locations like Blockbuster and Rogers Video…you could walk into/call a movie store and find they don’t have the movie you wanted.

At Zip.ca they provide a Ziplist (ordered from 1 to 800) containing your wanted movies – they try to send your requests in the order that you have placed them, i.e. #1 being the most important, etc…

In my experience, I have found that they do send movies from the list in quite a reasonable amount of time and they do send movies from the 1st to about the 45th spot on my list. There are factors to take in to account, such as quantity availability, priority on your Ziplist and which warehouse has the movies – there are four warehouses – Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver.

So if you’re not picky about watching random movies as they arrive, then this service is for you!
