Robert D. Gibb is posting a stunning series of articles on Air Miles on the forum. I found the series very useful and enlightening so I’m posting it on the blog as well.
Robert D. Gibb is a Contributing Editor (DRIPs) at the Canadian MoneySaver Magazine.
Note that AM = Air Miles
The Buy 5 Get 50 AirMiles on House Brands should run the next two weeks on the products below.
Not each AM is approx. $0.13 so one product of 5 gets 10 AMs $1.30. Subtract $1.30 from the listed price to see if it’s ahead vs. similar products elsewhere. E.G. Cookies @$3.00 means you’re paying the equivalent of $1.70. If you can buy similar cookies elsewhere for $1.70 or less then buy them elsewhere.
I chose cookies because Safeway Select is $3.00 for a 350 g bag this week. At the same time Christies are buy `1 Get 1 free. The shelf price only shows 2/$7.98 (I think). I would assume buying 2 will work out to $3.99 for 2 or $2.00 each (It’s confusing so ask).
The house brand appears to have a slight advantage if you include the AM bonus, however it might have been 2/$6.98. On buy 1 get 1 that would be $3.49 for 2 or $1.75 each. The AM advantage is diminished against this name brand.
Regardless, here are some eligible house brands that are also on sale. If the sale price is greater than a 15% I’ve bold-faced it. Reg. price is followed by sale price then discount:
SS Marinades 3.62/3.00 17%
GMS Meatballs 14.19/11.49 19%
Stuffed Olives 500ml 3.88/3.47 11%
Select Olives 250 ml 5.08/4.57 10% (Note: This item has skyrocketed in price. I recall it at $3.50 last time. I’m starting to notice many food items rising)
O Salad Dressings 3.89/3.59 8%
Instant coffee 200g 6.44/5.49 15%
Mincemeat 700ml 5.29/4.59 13%
Frozen Peas/Corn 2kG 5.38/4.84 10%
Peanuts 2kg 8.62/6.49 24%
Lotions 525ml 4.17/3.44 18%
and of course
Select Cookies 350 g 3.50/3.00 14%

DELL Canada’s Days of Deals have been around for several years and have impressed us with some pretty good deals over the years. The best deals tend to be before Christmas so make sure you check the website early in the morning. Hot deals can become out of stock in a couple of hours.
I’ll try (but can’t promise) to review each day’s deals 🙂

So you’re not a student but you still want to make use of the loads of shopping benefits the Student Price Card (SPC) offers? Here’s the solution:
Subscribe to 11 issues of Lou Lou magazine for for $19.95 here and you’ll get an SPC VIP card. On this VIP card it says “Student ID Not Required VIPâ€.
Even for $19.95 (instead of $10 for the regular SPC) I still think this card is worth it. You’ll also get Lou Lou magazine which in my honest opinion is one of the more interesting and useful magazines out there. I think it’s much better than Roger Publishing’s other fashion magazine, Flare.
