Bahumbug! The Grinch Who Stole Chistmas and Who’s Swinging Christmas Parties!

merry-grinchmas-2

I’m sure many of you have seen the Grinch who stole Christmas starring Jim Carey. I had seen it years ago and had forgotten about the little stuff. Well it was on Monday, and I never realized how much adult humour there is in this movie.

For example in one part the Grinch is a baby in a tree while his to be parents were having a party. They were dancing kinda provacatively with each other then you see a fishbowl come out and they all throw their keys in.

Hmmn. Key game? I’ve seen it on movies before its a swingers game. Yuck! My husbands theory was keys were collected so the Who’s of  Whoville don’t drink and drive, but I’m definitely onto these swinging Whos!

Has anyone else noticed some of the adult humour in this movie? I know its common for movies such as Shrek to be suggestive but I never noticed it in this moive.

So if you have seen this part whos side are you on? Are the Who’s Swingers or are they just keen and don’t drink and drive? Or both?

Happy Holidays! 😀

16 Days till Christmas – The “Sexy Elf”

By Nicole H.

Hi Boo,

Here’s my *short* Christmas story.

When I was 16, I was just finishing up the Leaders in Training Program offered through the City of Nanaimo’s Parks and Recreation.  One of our final events involved the whole group of us helping with the Children’s Christmas Party where Santa himself makes a guest appearance — on skates!  I volunteered to be one of Santa’s skating elves.  The city requested our sizes and ordered our costumes for us.  On the day of the event, I changed into my costume — but to my surprise the skirt for the elf costume was insanely short.  Even with tights, I still wasn’t able to bend over.  There was no saving the costume, so I wore it as it was.  Kids were falling all over the place, trying to get close to Santa, but I couldn’t do anything to help them.  All I could do was just kind of shuffle along beside Santa, using candy canes as crowd control.  I’m not sure that the ‘sexy elf’ costume was ever re-ordered after that year.

21 Days till Christmas – The Best Gift Ever

by Cait Foster

Hi Boo! Here is my Christmas story. It’s a true one, I hope you’ll like it.

It’s amazing how something that your child does can break your heart so much. One of my friends told me that the first time her three year old punched her in the face she went to the bathroom, locked herself in and cried for twenty minutes. Another told me that the first time her daughter told her that she hated her, she died a little inside. So with those stories I can only imagine what I did to my mother on Christmas day when I was five years old.

I remember being so excited that it was Christmas morning. My sister and I rushed down the hall to our fake little Christmas tree and gawked at all the gifts that surrounded it. So many were from Santa, but there was a few select ones, always the best ones, that were signed by my mother. We saved these ones for last. I can’t remember if it was because that is what she wanted, or that is what we chose to do, I just remember opening those ones with the prettiest paper last.

We ripped through our stockings first, then our little gifts, then our big gifts. Everything was wonderful to a five year old. Even the clothes which I had no interest in were nice to look at. When we were done we were surrounded by piles of crumpled paper, crushed boxes, broken bows and tangled ribbon. We sat patiently waiting for our final gift. The loveliest ones of the whole group, with Victorian wrapping paper covered in roses and little girls in white dresses and curly-cues. The ribbon was a dusty pink velvet-like ribbon, and in the knots my mother had tied fake Baby’s Breath. A pretty little card covered in sparkles topped it off. It was a picture perfect gift, and I tore into it like a baboon on a gazelle carcass.

My sister had hers open first. It was a magical little Precious Moments plush doll. She was dressed in a burgundy dress with a gray hooded cape. On her hand rested a blue bird. She stood on a stand and when you wound up the base she would play music and turn. I was in love with it. She was so beautiful, and seeing what my sister got, I anticipated something even better.

My bubble was popped though as soon a I ripped off the final shred of paper. I too had received a Precious Moments doll, but mine was quite different. She was in a bikini with a water toy around her waist. She had goggles on her head, and didn’t play music like the other, she was more of a rag doll.

Instantly I was appalled. I broke into tears. My mother, bless her heart, had no idea why I was so upset. I began to scream with vigour, “I hate it! I hate it! I HATE IT!” My mother scrambled to get a hold of the situation but it was too late. I was in full tantrum mode and she could not understand why. In my final act of expressing my disgust, I picked it up by it’s nose, pretending like it was a piece of garbage. Unfortunately the nose was only lightly glued on, and as soon as I did this, the doll fell, leaving me with that stubbly little nose pinched in my fingers.

“That’s it!” my mother roared, “Go to your room!”
“Way to go Caitlin. You ruined Christmas.” My sister chimed in.

Off I stormed to my room to pout away the rest of Christmas morning, as my mother sat in the living room with what I am sure was a broken heart.

* * *

I couldn’t help but recall this incident as my friends told me their Mommy Horror Stories. Suddenly I felt so much guilt that I ran to the phone and called my mother. As she picked up I was already pouring apologies out my mouth, hoping she would forgive me for my tantrum twenty years prior.

I could hear her chuckle on the other end, as she said “Oh Hunny, you were just little. The only thing I don’t understand is why you were angry enough to rip off her nose.”

I went on explaining to her the reasoning that was in my little five year old brain at the time.

She giggled again and told me why she had chose that particular doll for me that Christmas. “You had just started swimming lessons, and I was so proud of you. I wanted you to have something to remember your big accomplishments.”

I smiled with tears in my eyes and told her, “I’ll always remember that gift mum. Now I know it was the best gift ever.”

24 Days till Christmas – Santa Claus Made Me Cry

Santa Crying Baby Child

$$$wise sent me a very interesting idea for the Christmas countdown!

Ever had your picture taken with Santa Claus?
I didn’t realize how many scared-of-Santa pictures there are until I started searching and there seems to be a lot!
I (Boo Radley) too have a pic of baby me crying and trying to get away from Santa. Unfortunately my Mom confiscated all my baby pics and wouldn’t let me have them because she knows how I easily lose stuff so I couldn’t post it on here 😛
Do you have a picture of yourself or your kids scared of Santa?

Written by Sara Lilley:

Hello,

Here is a sort-of Christmas story I wrote. This is non-fiction (although I wrote it like it was fiction.) It’s about Christmas revelations and growing up during the first Christmas dinner that I hosted.

In the rush of the moment she lost the tiniest part of her inner child. Such a small, mostly meaningless, moment took something irreplaceable. It’s hard to spot if you aren’t paying attention.

The little girl stood, jittery and delighted in a red and green party dress.

      “I wanna sit beside you.”

In her head she thought the little girl should sit beside her mother. It was the pout on her face and precocious attitude that made her realize this evening was going to become something she’d have to let go of if it were to go smoothly. Sometimes it’s easier to let chaos handle the situation. She was nervous about hosting her first Christmas dinner but shouldn’t have been, her family and her friends were generous and forgiving.

She handed out the gorgeously wrapped gifts and set her own behind her. Though she did check the bags, glance at the names on the card, she didn’t open it. She set it aside and helped the little girl with her task. Soon there was Cinderella’s face staring up at her, wooden blocks coloured in the brightest primary colours, a tossed aside kitchen set, a blinking doll named Sasha (even though it was a boy) . . . and a pile of still neatly wrapped and forgotten gifts at her back.

When she opened her first present, she found a little purse in her hand and she didn’t fake her enthusiasm. It was cute and it was trendy and it was just what she didn’t know she wanted. Yes, it was all those things. She hurriedly pulled out the tissue from inside. A penny spilled into her lap.

“Oh! A lucky penny!” she said as a thank you. For her, receiving gifts was hard, though she tried to be gracious.

“Of course,” said the gift giver knowingly.

The moment was rushed as dinner still had to be made and the wrapping paper needed to be plucked off the floor from between the toys and treasures. Her mother and aunt rescued all the coloured tissue papers, smoothing it and folding it up again to be used later. She could smell the turkey and while she was refreshing everyone’s drinks she was also mentally counting how many minutes before she needed to mash the potatoes. The little girl was under foot, building a Christmas tree out of blocks and singing carols to herself.

It was later, after chaos was replaced by the soothing tones of her guiltiest pleasure of a holiday movie, that she discovered she had set the penny down amongst a hundred other pennies on her dresser. She’d lost it. She worried and felt guilty though it was worthless. She’d wanted to stuff it in a shoe box or better yet, keep it in the purse, for years at a time. Just until the magic wore off and it was safe to let go. It occurred to her to just arbitrarily pick another penny . . . but it wasn’t the same. These silly traditions that she’d kept so long for herself was fading and she knew, with certainty, that she was growing up. She’d lost it.

The Remedy to Swine Flu

H1N1 Canada

Thanks Sunraven for sharing that “remedy” with us 😀

I was walking to the main post office in Kingston a few of days ago which was coincidentally beside one of the vaccination clinics. The lineups for the H1N1 vaccine were so long and looked so depressing. Thank goodness I don’t believe in whole H1N1 hype 😛

So, did you guys end up getting the H1N1 vaccine shots?

What will this Decade be Called?

Future Canada

This decade is almost over!  We’re less than two months away from a new decade and this makes me wonder what this decade will be called. We called the decade from 1980 to 1989 the Eighties (80s), 1990 to 1999 the Nineties (90s). The next decade 2010 to 2019 will be called the Teens. But what about the decade we’re in right now? What will 2000 to 2009 be called? The Zeros? that just doesn’t sound right. Any ideas?

lens1416432_homer_simpson_grim_reaper1On my morning browse of the deals section I came across an interesting post from blueegg.  Apparently WalMart.com (the American Site) is selling Caskets and Urns online.  So now your savings can even continue in the afterlife.  This was the funniest thing I’ve seem all day so I quickly emailed the link to everyone in my address book and thought I should share it with the rest of you too!  I especially love that funeral needs falls under the “For Your Home” section of the website.  Well, I guess it is a home of sorts…

Sears Canada new website design! Hunting for bargains made easier!?!? Sears.ca save 10$ off $100

searsold

Sears.ca relaunched their website with a new design less then 2 weeks ago.  I seem to want to compare it to Sears.com layout but a tad different. As of now I’m having a hard  time navigating since I was so use to the old layout. However I am finding a lot more information on one page and a lot more categories. I do like that I can view all the current promotions, and the deal of the day for the Outlet all on one page.

Right now there is 40% off selected housewares and Christmas Decorations as well as the Gift With Purchase for Clinique when you spend $26.50.  I need to order my Clinique soon before the promo is over.

Have you checked out the new Sears.ca yet? What are your thoughts?

Michael Bublé Forgot to use his Coupons

I just saw this video today since I’m not really a Michael Bublé fan. I think filming at the local Killarney Market in Vancouver BC is pretty cool!
