Did you take your kiddos to see The Lion King re-released in 3? I did not. However it seems it will cross the $80 million mark at the domestic box office very soon! The Disney Studios have now decided to re-release these great movies into theaters in RealD 3D

  • Beauty & The Beast – January 13, 2012
  • Finding Nemo – September 14, 2012
  • Monsters Inc. – January 18, 2013
  • The Little Mermaid (my fav!!) – September 13, 2013

“Great stories and great characters are timeless, and at Disney we’re fortunate to have a treasure trove of both,” said Alan Bergman, President, The Walt Disney Studios. “We’re thrilled to give audiences of all ages the chance to experience these beloved tales in an exciting new way with 3D – and in the case of younger generations, for the first time on the big screen.”

What are your thoughts on these new trend? Personally I don’t think it’s necessary… but rather just another excuse to make more $ off of us!

My kids LOVE the Incredibles… Sad to see its not on the list 🙁 Mind you, in 2 years they may not care anymore…

Oh who am I kidding I’ll probably go see Monsters Inc by myself bc I love Mike Wazowski so much lol.

I like that they are doing this, my daughter is just now old enough to see a movie in theaters so this is all new to her.

Yay! The Little Mermaid, I saw this in the theatre when it FIRST came out!

I think it’s awesome they’re doing this. My family are HUGE Disney fans. My husband and I even got married in Disney World so this is right up our alley 😀

Cute idea, depending on your kids ages, better for the 5 and up set. Also depends on the movie itself if 3D adds anything to it. Polar Express was awesome in 3D. Cars2 wasn’t that great in 3D.

I think it’s just a way to get more $’s. Most children won’t appreciate the difference between the regular movie and a 3D version. Yes, it’s neat to see it on the big screen, but for me personally, it’s not worth spending almost $40 just for the admission when my kids will watch these movies at home and enjoy it just as much.

bub – My oldest son and I also love Mike, definitely our favorite character from Monster’s Inc. 🙂

OMG this is awesome!!!! I love all of these movies, with The Little Mermaid being my fav since I was a little girl. Although it seems like just a money grab, I see it as a great idea! Giving my generation (who were young when beauty & the beast and the little mermaid came out) a chance to see them re-done on the big screen!!!

I’m excited! I love Beauty and the Beast

I think it is a great idea, so my kids can see some of theses great movies on the big screen. We went to Lion king and I will prob go to all these as well, with or without the kids!

  12. krysta lynne says:

I want to see the monsters inc in 3d. beauty and the beast will prob be done really well, especially the dinner table scene

  13. itsjustmebub says:

“I want to be where the people are. I want to see, want to see them dancing. Walking around on those whadya call them again? Feet!”

    Money Grab.

  15. Staying Home says:

Ugh, what a cash-grab this is for Disney. Not only are the movies re-released in theatres, which is bad enough, but they’re re-released as 3-D so we have to pay the premium 3-D price??? No thanks. We have all of the above titles on dvd, no need to spend close to $100 just to see the same ones all over again.

I took my 3yr old to see lion king, he got in free (he is just UNDER 3) so with discounts it only cost $11. It was worth it for him to see the big screen, and a movie that I already knew he wouldn’t be afraid of. My husband took him again 2 weeks later. I can’t wait for Finding Nemo.

I’m on the fence about this. This is obviously a money grab for Disney, however, I have a six year old who has loved The Little Mermaid since she was two and will most likely still love it in two years from now. The 3D aspect seems a little underwhelming for adults but for kids I think we have to remember that the theatre experience (especially the neat 3D) is a big deal to them. It really is a new way for them to enjoy their favourites so I will probably end up taking her to a couple of these despite the blatant cash grab.

  18. TM says:

LK 3D was a rip off, felt like I kept having to adjust my eyes

3D stands for the “3 Dollars” more they charge you for 3D in theatres.

And personally, I saw no reason for it… I used to balk at it and dispute it because I was never ever impressed… until I bought my new TV.

3D in-home is 5x better than any theatre experience. It’s more about the depth of field than it is stuff jumping out at you. 3D Gaming is an all new experience too.

I bought Lion King in 3D yesterday… and I look forward to these Pixar films coming out in 3D because it means the 3D-BD’s arent far off.
