Exciting news! Google Chromecast has finally made it to Canada! Google’s Chromecast is on “sale” at $39.00 on Amazon.ca. 10 reveiwers on Amazon.ca have given it an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars. One reviewer writes, “I can’t say anything bad about this device. The kids love streaming Youtube videos to it…” another reviewer writes, “yet another incredibly clever device from Google.
Google Chromecast is on sale for $39 on the Google Play Store and Amazon.ca. I’d recommend you go with Amazon.ca since they offer free shipping which saves you a few more dollars!
Some U.S. Best Buy locations sell it for as low as $30. When I was visiting my cousin in the US I bought a Chromecast, and I cannot recommend it enough. I got it for $15 from a Best Buy by getting $20 off my total purchase after having my cousin sign up for a Best Buy credit card. (He discarded the card once he got it in the mail 3 weeks later, no minimum purchase was required.)
The Google Chromcast enables you to stream or “cast” videos, movies, and just about anything else from your device (laptop, phone, tablet) screen onto your television screen as long as your TV has an HDMI port.
The Chromecast is Google’s answer to Apple’s Apple TV, Plex +, and other streaming devices. The Chromecast at $30-$40 is the best value of this class of devices compared to the ~$100 Apple TV.

I have had the chromecast for 3 months now (shipped from the US).
It is a great products but it’s still very buggy. Be aware that it does not work with every tv and there are still issues being worked out with streaming via a browser. Netflix and youtube work great though.
Aw, found out you need HDTV to use this. Recommended to my son, but he said using his XBOX does the same thing.
A little bit confusing. So you can connect your smartphone to TV via Chromecast? What if you don’t have an Iphone, or Ipad? Can it be used with Nokia Lumia as well?
Anyone know if you can stream bell tv from your smartphone to the tv using Chromecast? Currently any hook up I try the Bell app will detect that the tv is being streamed and won’t allow it.
You can google chrome tabs using an app, though as i mentionned this is in beta phase and still has many bugs with certain TVs (related to the brands and firmware, not the fact that they are HDTVs).
You can also cast other native players such as netflix and youtube. Read up on the chromecast website to know the details.
I have Sony HDTV which has USB port but just to view photos and listen music it doesn’t support if USB has video formats, any idea Chromcast will play on my TV?
thanks!!
It doesn’t use the USB port for connectivity, just for power.
It connects to your TV through HDMI, just like any other video input.
The Chromecast will be the brains (processing, wifi, etc). It doesn’t matter if your TV is a Smart TV or a Dumb TV.
Think of it like a tiny apple tv controlled by your phone or browser instead of a remote.
