I’m going to try and not repeat themes too often, but after seeing this photo of Obama I couldn’t resist. Besides, at 40 captions and counting on our first post it seems like everyone here at SmartCanucks is eager to put words in the mouths of US politicians.
So what say you? Who’s the real Superman in this picture?

Some of you might have heard about this already. Metro Inc. will start changing most of its grocery stores’ names to Metro to help make it easier and more economical for them to brand and market the stores. Once the transformation is complete by the end of 2009 Metro will become the most common supermarket name in Canada, boasting 376 stores in Quebec and Ontario. The only banner not included in the change is Food Basics, which competes in the discount food segment of the grocery market.
To Quebecers that’s good news since they’ve always had Metro grocery stores (which I find are ridiculously overpriced – but that applies to all grocery stores in Quebec). It will be nice for Quebecers to see Quebec’s grocery store brand spread all across Ontario.
I personally have mixed feelings about this. Although they’re now owned by Metro Inc, A&P grocery stores have been around for almost a century and were operated by the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. On August 15, 2005, A&P sold A&P Canada and Food Basics Canada to Metro Inc. of Quebec. I guess Metro waited for a few years before going with the name change to avoid getting too much attention to the handover. It’s just sad seeing another well known and historic name in Ontario vanish. A&P, although originally American, did leave its finger prints in Canada. On the other hand, I find current A&P and Dominion stores are pricier than Loblaws. The stores also seem to have an infamous reputation so it’s nice seeing some fresh blood and change. I just hope the change doesn’t mean crummy cramped aisles and ugly store designs like the Metros currently in Quebec.
Why do I bring this up today? Well Metro Inc. has started changing the name of grocery stores from Dominion to Metro in Toronto and probably other Ontario cities too.
Came across this video on Ted Avery’s website. I can’t stop watching it! Thanks Ted for wasting my next hour watching this 😀

MrsJanuary had a Tylenol coupon blog post here with a link to a $3 off coupon on Tylenol Acetaminophen Products. However, some merchants change the coupon all of a sudden making us seem like liars. I learned this lesson from Harvey’s who without any notice changed the expiry date on their coupon about a year ago causing unnecessary drama 😛 . So what I usually do is keep a backup proof of coupons posted on here just in case.
It’s people who use a coupon 42 times that ruin it for EVERYONE. So please don’t be greedy and be SENSIBLE and use any coupon once. Don’t let companies regret being nice.
Save $3.00 on any Tylenol Acetaminophen product. Tylenol is sold at Walmart for almost $3 and also just above the $3 mark at many grocery stores like Loblaws.
Coupon expires January 31st, 2009

Thanks Koala for reminding us of that awesome program run by Canada Post.
The Santa Letter-writing Program brings joy to children from across Canada and around the world. In addition to giving many children their first introduction to letter writing, this program is also a very important part of the holiday season for thousands of Canada Post employees and retirees.
Currently, more than one million children write to Santa at his ‘NORTH POLE H0H 0H0’ address. Each letter that includes a return address receives a reply from Santa.
More than 11,000 current and retired Canada Post employees, affectionately called Postal Elves, help Santa to ensure that every child’s letter gets an answer in the language in which the letter was written, including Braille (emails are answered in English or French).
Encourage your children and students to write to Santa. It is a fun learning experience that helps teach kids how to write and send a letter. To ensure that children will receive a reply from Santa before Christmas, they should write as early as possible. Remember to include your return address. Teachers are urged to send their classroom letters by December 5.
Although Santa loves to receive letters and drawings, putting cookies and treats in your envelope is not a good idea as they will get crushed and damaged by the time they reach Santa. Santa much prefers to eat his treats on Christmas Eve, so please have your children save them at home for the big day!
