They serve the same Queen, fight the same foe and lay down their lives with equal valour and sacrifice. But when the fallen heroes of Canada and Britain come home, the welcome is very different.
In Canada, roads are cleared and police stand to attention to welcome home fallen heroes.

In Britain, hearses carrying their war dead routinely get stuck in traffic without even so much as a police escort

Thanks Kristopher for suggesting this freebie. Here’s what Kristopher had to say on his blog:
So Nine Inch Nails released yet another album available completely free to download, The Slip. I even was downloading it over 500 kB/s!! Amazing stuff here. They’re even using bit torrent with their own tracker to get the higher quality releases out to fans. Innovation people. It’s for the fans according to the download page. A physical release will happen in July, thankfully. Although I’m starting to really not care about CDs now, but I do love to hold something physical, not sure why.

I came across this unconventional radio interview at Blue Blogging Soapbox about the seal hunt. It really bothers me that out of the thousands of endangered species out there, so much focus has been put onto the seal hunt, one of the few remaining sources of income to many Newfoundlanders. I am totally against cruelty to animals, but I don’t like being manipulated by organizations who aren’t very honest about their claims and have profit objectives.

Any gamer worth his weight in salt has probably traded a game or two in his day. But why trade games in at your local EB or Blockbuster for a fraction of the price they’ll sell them for? Why not get the value a game’s really worth? Maybe it’s time you checked out Goozex.
Goozex is an online video game trading community. The way it works is pretty simple. You post a list of the games you want to get rid of and the games you want to own. As people request your games and you send them out you get points. These points in turn can be spent on games you want from others. Simple, no?
ANd the best part? You can get a free game right off the bat without any trades whatsoever.
Goozex offers 100 free points just for signing up, and there are literally hundreds of games on the service available for that price! The best of the best for 100 points is probably Daxter for the PSP. It has an average score of 85% on Metacritic, and most everyone I know whose played it says it’s easily one of the best titles on the system.

Once you qualify
RBC will contact you via mail at the address in their files when you have met all of the required criteria. A confirmation number will be provided for you to confirm your shipping address and language of choice.
You must keep your account open until at least December 2008
Evaluation of this Promo
For a signature account there is a monthly charge of $13.95.
Let’s say you sign up immediately in May. You must keep your account open until at least December 2008. That’s 8 months. i.e. $13.95 x 8 months = $112
The Asus Eee PC currently costs $299. You’ll end up paying $112 for it instead which is an awesome deal. Of course the whole process is a pain and a waste of time and if you value your time you may decide against it.

The Scientific American has a very interesting article about why stores label items as, say, $19.95 instead of simply $20. You probably think it’s simply to make the item appear cheaper and that you’re not fooled by this trick. Turns out there’s more to it than that.

Or if you’re too lazy to read the article, here’s the paragraph that sums it up:
As Janiszewski and Uy explain in the February issue of Psychological Science, people appear to create mental measuring sticks that run in increments away from any opening bid, and the size of the increments depends on the opening bid. That is, if we see a $20 toaster, we might wonder whether it is worth $19 or $18 or $21; we are thinking in round numbers. But if the starting point is $19.95, the mental measuring stick would look different. We might still think it is wrongly priced, but in our minds we are thinking about nickels and dimes instead of dollars, so a fair comeback might be $19.75 or $19.50.
