Shoppers Drug Mart is having a new 20x refer a friend event on December 1 2007, and once again we have set up a referral chain to help everyone get more Optimum points.     Here is a basic explanation of what the referral event is and how the chain works:

Every 3 months Shoppers Drug Mart has an event where if you spend $50 or more you get 20x the optimum points
e.g. if you spend $50 you get 50 x 10 x 20 = 10,000 points.  During that event, if you refer someone (let’s call him John) and he spends $50 or more you will get 1000 points for referring him! Now let’s say John refers Jane and Jane spends $50 or more… you’ll get 1000 points as well although you didn’t directly refer her!

So what we’re trying to do here is have a chain so that each person refers the next person and we get 1000 points for each person below us in the chain who spends $50 or more on the x20 event day!

 To join the train please add [email protected] to your Microsoft MSN Messenger contacts.  Then when you see that we are online, contact us.  

Prior to contacting us via msn to join the chain there are a few things you must do.  First please log onto Shoppersdrugmart.ca and ensure that you can check your Optimum points online.  Second, make sure you have your Optimum card number handy prior to messaging us and finally and very importantly please make sure you have at least half an hour you can devote to the process of signing up.   Each sign up can take awhile to complete so please DO NOT message us if you cannot devote at least half an hour to the sign up process.

For the next seven days Best Buy online will be having daily door crasher sales.  It looks like two deals a day, but one of the deals for today (laptop) is already sold out.

The new sports center at the University of Northern British Columbia has recently introduced *mandatory* finger scanning for all members. Anyone opposed will be banned from accessing members only areas, however all students will still be charged a membership fee for the facility. There are NO CURRENT alternatives. This means that I am currently paying for membership to a facility that I cannot access.

The situation became openly coercive this morning when within half an hour of setting up our table protest the situation, a member of management walked by the table while swearing and insulting us.

This new policy is actually in violation of the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) as it is not essential for the running of the facility. Many facilities at larger institutions run quite smoothly without a biometric data system. A meeting with members of the sports center itself has not convinced us that proper action will be taken. We are in the process of gathering a petition, and working with student councils and on campus groups to gather support. We have also set up an online petition where you can voice your support for our struggle.

PLEASE help!!! Please pass on this information by any means you can, and feel free to borrow both from this post and the petition itself to post on other sites.
