Common sense should tell you that the less you print, the more you’ll save. Ink costs money. Paper costs money. But sometimes it’s just not that simple — sometimes the things you’re looking to print have a lot of useless information mixed in that you have no choice but to print out along with what you were looking for. Enter GreenPrint.
GreenPrint is a free-to-use program that allows you to print exactly what you want without any excess waste or filler. On top of that it’ll track exactly how much paper and ink you’ve saved and translate that into a dollar figure so that you can really seethe impact it’s making. Right now the product is only available in Windows format, though they’re hoping to have a Mac version up and running by the end of the year.
Sometimes reducing your eco-footprint can help fatten your wallet too. Isn’t it nice when good deeds pay off?
Sounds like a nice idea but all you really need is:
– freeware PDF writer (PrimoPDF, doPDF, etc.)
– Print the PDF -> select the pages you want to print.
– Ink/Toner/Paper saved!
I suppose the novelty is in the ink/paper tracking. Though, you can’t argue with free!
Technologies to do this sort of thing already exist, but whatever it takes to get people interested in being environmentally friendly is good in my books 🙂
What I do is what Bobby said, get a PDF writer. All my credit card and bank statements are online, so those as well as my receipts for online purchases are saved in a PDF file that retains the formatting exactly as if I had actually printed it. Then if I need to actually print it later I can, but I usually never do!
Yep! I have used Primo for a few years now and for any online purchase I make, I just print off a pdf copy and voila. In a few cases I have actually had to print off a hard copy (rebates..) but other than that I stay electronic!
But this still looks like a cool idea 🙂
Thanks, I’d like to try it.
I don’t like using pdf.
@ 1764, do you not like PDF because it’s too slow? Adobe Reader is really bloated.
For those that want to try a faster reader, Foxit Reader’s great. It’s soooo much faster than Adobe Reader and it’s freeware.
talk about novely item for sure.
And of course, there is Print Preview 😉 That’s a classic, don’t even need to install anything for it.
I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I really like it. I can delete the unwanted pages before saving it as a PDF and/or printing it. Just turning something into a PDF means you can still end up with unwanted, useless pages, so I don’t mind the few seconds extra to get the more compact file.
