Purse Hanger

Purse Hangers Canada

I saw someone yesterday using a tiny hanger/hook to hang her purse above the ground while having dinner at a restaurant. I had never seen anything like this before and it’s one of the neatest ideas I’ve come across in a while.  It’s a simple and practical way of keeping your purse off the floor and preventing it from getting dirty. I did some research and found that Amazon.com (not Amazon.ca) sells these cute tiny purse hangers for only $9.95.

I’m not sure where they’re sold in Canada but I’m sure you could find them at stores. Maybe Ardene? Accessorize? Nonetheless I love the idea. Now if men could only carry purses 😛

I’ve had mine for about a year or so and it’s a wonderful tool to have when you are out 🙂 I think I saw them at Winners the other day but I can’t remember if it was $10 for one or if it was a two pack. Oh the Dollarama has them too 🙂

  2. Boo Radley says:

    Dollarama for $1? Nice!

That purse hanger has been around for a very long time. I remember my grandmother having a collection of them, in the 70s. They come with all sorts of cute little clips attached, from jewelled-like to simple square ones. I guess it’s come back in vogue now…

Another product available for added security: The Purse Guard.

Features on Daily Giz Wiz episode 406 from September 2007.

  6. delila says:

Actually I think they are $2 in Dollarama but maybe I’m mistaken

  7. Kitty says:

yeah, my grandma had a whole whack of them & used to coordinate them to her outfits/purse!

  8. ~IamJ~ says:

Men DO carry ‘purses’ – in Toronto at least – they use a mini messenger bag or fanny pack and wear it cross-body. And these are straight men too. So Boo, you should go for it, rather than just wishing about it. 😛

  9. benji says:

I got one about 10 years ago, from Avon, thinking it was an awesome idea and I’d use it all the time. I used it once.

I also just recently got a whack of free ones through work, and I’m saving them for stocking stuffers.

  10. Ginger says:

They’re pretty great. I got one customized with my initial from a vendor on Etsy.com.

There are a million places you can buy them now, most shops catering to women would have them now I expect, especially the cute boutiques or kitschy shops.

I like the selection online though–you can customize! 🙂

Last week I saw some beautiful ones in Chapters/Indigo bookstore for approximately $10 each

  12. Wendy says:

I’ve also seen them at Chapters/Indigo, I think they were 12.99 there though, a little pricey for me!

  13. olive says:

Yeah, i got myself one and one for my mom at dollarama!

  14. Anna says:

How heavy the hanger can stand? Cause I usually carry large bags and quite heavy.

  15. Zay says:

I think they are really cool. I will check out Dollarama, thanks for the great tips!

  16. Adam says:

I got one for my fiancee at the “as seen on tv” store, it cost about $4, so if you can’t find it at dollarama, check there,

  17. Amy says:

The only trouble with using it on the edge of a table is when stupid people bump into my table end up knocking my purse down. This happened to me 3 times in 1 evening and the restaurant wasn’t even busy/crowded. All I can say is – people, pleae watch where you’re walking – tables usually don’t move out of your way 🙂

  18. shirley says:

The ones at Ingigo/Chapters are awesome because they curl up into a circle when not in use. So it looks like a coin and isn’t an odd shape.

  19. Sally says:

You can get them at ebay for a few bucks too 🙂

  20. Marmaduke says:

One was given to me from Birks back in the day….

  21. Ez says:

You can find them at Michaels Arts and Craft store in the Bridal section. (They have the exact same one that is shown on the picture) They are around $5.00 each and you can use your 40% off coupon on it also.

Just saw them at Dollarama yesterday for $1 and they have a cystal stone on them too. Was going to get 2, one for my mom and i both. I hate putting my nice purses on dirty surfaces so it’s a neat idea. Great stocking stuffer and you can just always keep it in your purse.

  27. toots says:

I think these are neat but I’m a little paranoid of using them. It seems like they give a thief easier access to swipe it as they run by, opposed to them reaching down on the floor for it or they can try to pry it away from between my feet LOL.

  28. spoony says:

i saw them in a regal catalogue too… i think they have two different designs to pick from, but i can’t remember how much they were.

  29. Rachel says:

I saw them at the facorydirect.ca store in Hamilton (on Upper James)

  30. Lillian says:

    I don’t really like them….

Isn’t it easier to just put the purse on your lap, the clean seat next to you, on a napkin on a table (if cleanliness is an issue)?

Besides, I don’t like the though of my purse hanging there off of the table. Somebody could easily take it without me knowing, as you don’t really pay attention to it when dining/can’t see it since it’s hanging below view point.

  31. benji says:

Lillian – totally agree with you, and that’s why I never use it anymore. I only paid $3.99 – thank god. It was more annoying, because it’s hanging and if you go to cross your legs or whatever you’ll knock and it falls – it was far more in the way than being “convenient”.

  32. crystaly says:

    Dior sells them too!

  33. mlongboat says:

Anna, The ones from Dollarama claim to carry 27 lbs on the packaging. They were near the scarves. They we’re $2 in my Dollarama:)

  34. onggong says:

After I read your messages about finding in Dollarama I went there. But didnot find :(( Do you remember in which section you found them?
    Thanks in advance

  35. Alex89 says:

I first saw my mom using them 40+ years ago and I thought they were really cool and very lady like.

  36. koukladd says:

I got one of these from Europe a few years ago, they are trendy there.

  37. Anna says:

Thanks mlongboat, let me buy 1 from Dollarmara

  38. Mila says:

Yes, I have seen these for $1.00 at Dollarama also!! Actually bought a couple myself! They make great gifts for wedding showers actually!

  39. Alex says:

I got mine from Hang Accessories its foldable and leopard print! I guess they don’t show all of their line on their website http://www.hangaccessories.com but they do have a myspace…myspace.com/hangaccessories. They’re really cute and come in lots of different designs and best of all they keep my new Marc Jacobs be looking like new : )

  40. pink_panda says:

    $1.25 at Dollarama 🙂

  41. benji – can I be on your stocking stuffer list LOL

toots – The one I saw on tvclosed around like a ring under the table so there is no way a thief could make a quick run with it they would have to try to grab it in front of you and I would totally kick their a$$ LOL and the ones that have the hook facing inside also doesn’t really give them an easy way to grab it…now if it was facing out then def it would attract thieves. I would probably keep it close to me anyway just in case…

I saw these on tv awhile ago and was thinking they are pretty neat for the times when you don’t want to put them on the back of your chair (I am super paranoid) and I am also a germophobe LOL will not put it on the ground for anything so it either sits in my lap or on my shoulder should go to dollarama and get one but my purse is huge (hobo bag) so it may still sit on the floor :(.

  42. pink_panda says:

wonder if you can use it in the washroom. i hate it when there’s no hook in the stalls, sometimes i have to hang my bag around my neck because i don’t want it to touch the floor. lmao

  43. Alee says:

2 b honest with everyone I find these stupid!!! They don’t seen 2 have muck use 4 people who are busy and well I’m always busy I just put my purse beside me~~~LOL~~!!!

  44. Tim says:

  47. vancouverite says:

They have glitzy purse hangers at http://www.lushhive.com

  48. Ciel says:

Nice to know all the places one can find them. Last year or so, I found three styles in a toy and gift shop that later closed. The hangers are probably best where there is elbow room between people, not a crowded table. Also the tabletop has to be thin enough to hold the purse-some tops are too big for the hanger.

For purses kept on chairs or floors (even in cars)-good idea to give them a wipe with hand sanitizer every so often so you don’t spread germs from the surfaces onto linens, furniture, on pets if they get into your things, etc.

  49. ashoquanda says:

Clipa Clipa Clipa!! Google it, Im soo over buying these types. They break after a month, or i lose them. The bangle idea saved me i bunch, ciao!

  50. Gina Ross says:

Totally agree with Ashoquanda about Clipa. By far the best one I’ve ever bought, the only one that lasts, works every time and looks great as a bracelet mixed in with my other bracelets. No more digging in my purse for a little hanger. They sell them at Dillard’s and online everywhere.

  51. Sasha says:

I’m looking for about 200 of these purse hangers but don’t want the cheaper quality ones. Does anyone know where I can find these at a reasonable price?

  52. Raya says:

I got mine at Linen Chest for $8.99. It comes with its own velvet pouch!

  53. Annie S says:

    They ship everywhere and fast!
They also have a lot of models to choose from. Mine is from the Glamour Collection with real crystals its beautiful!!!! I just love it I gave it to all my bridesmaids at my wedding…

  54. Fiona says:

If in Canada you should go to http://www.pursemate.ca/ its a Canadian company so ships fast. Having a sale now $5.00 for purse hangers!

  55. jeanine says:

I found mine from lushhive.com – great classy purse hanger designs and they ship fast too!

  56. nannyonthego says:

I had onefrom Stokes in London for $5,gave it away as a gift thinking I could get another one, well I did go back to Stokes to get it but they want $5 if I buy something from them first,$12 if I do not, what a scam.disgusting Stokes, cant you at least appreciate a purchase no matter how small from your customers without the blackmail

  57. SUSAN J. ROPER says:

I have been using these for at least 10 yrs and at that time they were very hard to find unless you were in a speciality store. (purse stores didn’t even carry them) I have many different designs which I co-ordinate to my purses and I also have them in two different sizes. The ones with the smaller stem fit inside an evening bag/purse and they are great as often the only place to put an evening bag is on the table where it can have food/wine etc dripped on it.I always have one in my purse to use if there isn’t an extra chair. People ahve stopped giving me strange looks and asking waht it is.I have one that has a mirror on the outside and one that opens with a tiny compartment inside not sure what you could put in there as it isn’t very big a couple of aspirin/midol maybe. My fertile imagination is working overtime and I think it would be the perfect place to carry poison/drugs if you were wanting to kill your lover/husband I must be related to Lucretia Borgia.
Some of my more interesting unusual ones I have found at church bazaars, garage sales, estate sales and definately in speciality gift shops. They are very popular in Europe.
