Shoppers Drug Mart: Free McDonald’s Gift Card When You Spend $50/$75 (Oct. 16 – 17, 2010)

fries

This coming weekend, Oct. 16-17, 2010, Shoppers Drug Mart is giving away a free $10 McDonald’s gift card when you spend $50 or more (up to $74.99), and a $20 gift card when you spend $75 or more. Usual exclusions like prescriptions, lottery, transit tickets, etc. apply.

Hmmm….I don’t know what to make of this promo. They usually do Tim Hortons or Cara restaurants, I wonder why the switch to McDonald’s? What do you think?

Thanks to Tripsplanner for letting us know about this promo!

yikes, a ‘drugstore’ (i know SDM is a lot more these days) giving out McD’s cards? that’s kinda like a skin cancer foundation giving out tanning salon certificates! though i suppose it could work–after the ill-effects of eating there, one would likely need to buy more medicine/remedies. i’d definitely not take advantage of this offer and wait for a Xpoints or movie pass offer (my fave).

Awesome! Though my fave is the Petro Canada gas card, this is good!

honeydoo, they have given out Timmie’s before, not ‘healthier’, anyway!
A movie pass has nothing to do with a drugstore, either….

    A bonus is just a bonus 🙂

  3. Skippy says:

honeydoo is right on with her take, sorry Natalka.
P.S. Timmies is Terrific, McDonalds is Muck! (IMO)

Cant stand Tim Hortons….McDonalds is much better in my opinion

  5. mary says:

I love McDs as well. In moderation. =) You get a lot out of your money if you’re buying coffee/drinks from them IMO… and it’s also Monopoly time!!

I’d much rather have the McDonald’s gift card! You can’t get anything for under $10 at Cara’s and the Tim Horton’s card is not as exciting in my opinion.
As for a drugstore giving out junk food gift cards–have you seen the amount of candy/pop/chips/chocolate/cookies they sell at SDM? What’s the difference?

This is crappy. I, like many other people, don’t eat this type of food. Why can’t there be a healthy option. Even when SDM have one-day sales they put a lot of fattier, sugary foods on sale. How about a one day sale on frozen fruit!!!!!

  8. mhk says:

McD has healthy salads too – so not all bad. I buy the salads, and do not use the dressings – so that is good. I prefer McD to Timmy Hibby anytime! Also Monopoly time – so double double at McDonalds this time! Yay!

One day I waited forever in line at Tim Hortons for a juice…just to find out when it was finally my turn at the cash they dont take interac !!! Have not set foot in one since then…2 years and counting.

  10. Sara says:

Maplegirl none of them ever have taken interac. And it makes peferct sense for them not too. It slows down the lines and raises stores costs.

ANYWAYS…I’m not going to shop, much prefer the 20x over the gc promos no matter what it is. But I am surprised its McD’s.

  11. CarlyinCanada says:

Will pass & wait for 20X day unless its a really good flyer! lol My cashier on Sat mentioned this promo & also that Burger King might be in the future too!

  12. Emyk2000 says:

I would much rather have the Timmie’s Card! Why promote people eating more junk food! It seems like the Tim’s card is more of a treat for the busy mom!

  13. twinmommy says:

I’m a busy Mom and I’d be happy with either gift card. The hard part is spending that much money at once at SDM. I only go there for their sales and most of the time we’re no way near the minimum purchase required. Nice to see them changing things up a bit especially at Monopoly time as suggested by other posters.

  14. NO WAY says:

This is not a promo for everybody.. I will not be looking to cash in on this deal, the Kelsey’s Montanas is better, i know you don’t get much.. Boston Pizza should be on there some time..

  15. Tripsplanner says:

How are doughnut/ coffee healthier than burger/ soda? It’s just nice to have the variety – that’s all. Each to his own!

  16. Sally says:

If your against the mc’ds card go in and spend 49.50 instead 😛
