What can 10,000 HBC points buy?
Looks like it’s worth less than a dollar.
a $10 Blockbuster card needs 90,000 points.

Exactly its a points rewards card, and like bonus Air Miles etc, the bonus isn’t usually enough to get you something on its own. The bulk of your points would be from using the card at The Bay and Zellers when you make a purchase. I just signed up, but over the years my mom has received a few things for free from her points. 🙂
I tend to evaluate a points program by also taking into consideration how hard it is to EARN the points, as well as the free stuff you can use them on.
Consider that you only earn 50 points per dollar spent if you buy merchandise at HBC/Zellers. So you would have to spend $200 to earn 10,000 points.
Not bad for sitting on your *ss in front of the computer, doing nothing. 😉

The points are actually worth more if you normally pay for your car washes at esso. 10K HBC converts to 200 esso extra, which is 2/5ths of the 500 required for a free wash ($8-10 value).
Also, these HBC enewsletters normally contain 7-10-15K point bonus coupons on $20-50 purchases at Bay/Zellers/Home Outfitters.
