I would love to know how the SPC works…Do you need to be a student? Show a student idea as well?

  2. J B says:

I am also curious if I need to be a student to use this card – its says student ID may be required at Zellers and sharing of the card is not allowed. Anyone out there currently using one? How does it work?

  3. Lily says:

You need to present a valid student id card with the SPC card.

The exception is a VIP SPC card for which you do not have to be a student or present any type of ID.

  4. Talimomali says:

Its not quite a gift card, its a card for $10 off $50 etc. Very misleading if you don’t read the fine print.

  5. Yuki says:

Yea, I hate these “gift card” deals. It’s not worth it. But the SPC is definitely amazing. I pretty much always get asked for ID, and Zellers is pretty picky about it….. but if you’re a student, I definitely think you should get one!!!

  6. mhk says:

Wait till Lou Lou comes out with their VIP card. Then for a $14.99 subscription for Lou Lou, you get a VIP card (no student ID required) and the magazines for a year. THAT is a good deal – no hassles anywhere 🙂

  7. Shocked says:

mhk, don’t wait for LouLou. They are NOT offering this deal again this year. 🙂 ONLY way to get a VIP now is thru SPC’s Facebook page… thru contest wins and the like! 🙂

  9. Tabetham says:

According to the SPC site you can only get a VIP card if you win one from them.
Lou Lou isn’t doing the VIP SPC card offer this year 🙁

  10. FunkyMunky says:

    @Tabetham – oh no :(:(:(

I see several people post that they use SPC at Zellers. What will happen when Zeller becomes Target, will they still take it?

  14. Amy says:

    @RedEng,

I don’t have any formal backing to my answer, but I assume that Target will NOT offer discounts as per the SPC Card.

It’s a Canadian discount card, and coming from the states, I don’t think Target will sign onto a discount program here in Canada that they don’t offer there.

  15. cindy says:

I’ve used the SPC card many times and they’ve never asked me to show them ID. Mind you, I am university aged. If you are older/look older than they might ask.

When I’m with my mom or friends or whatever I definitely use it to get discounts for them too – it’s never been a problem.

  16. Victorian says:

Zellers can be pretty nasty on checking ids. Last summer, I wasn’t allowed to use my SPC card at Zellers because my student ID shows that I wasn’t registered in the summer term even though for the rest of the year I was a student.

  17. Rob says:

heres hoping Guess stops cheaping out and comes on board with a 10-20% off reg priced items, the watch i want will never be on sale, so if i cant get the 30-50% off reduced items, ill at least get 10% off.

Also as mention by mhk about the SPC VIP, Lou Lou still has that promo, Oddly the card expires July 31, but promo runs untill December 31 2011.

  18. Mary says:

It says on SPC card FaceBook page that they will be giving out VIP cards there. I assume they would have a couple hundred to give out. At least this way you don’t have to subscribe to anything and it’s free.

  19. SPC VIP says:

BOO went on their facebook and it says “VIP Cards will only be available through Facebook contests and giveaways!”

  20. Adele says:

I just spoke with Lou Lou Magazine in regards to renewing my subscription and asked about the SPC VIP Card. The offer will be available again in July, they said to check their website for the posting. I hope this helps!

  21. cindy says:

    Wow Victorian =O that’s really ridiculous :S

  22. PaperRose says:

Zellers has always required the student ID each time I tried to use the SPC card and only let me when my daughter was present and had her ID handy. VIP card is the best alternative to becoming a student again.

  23. Alicia says:

I use my SPC card all the time at Zeller’s and The Source. I am a student but I’ve used it for friends/family and no one seems to be too picky about it in my experience. Half the time I just say I have an SPC card and don’t even have to pull it out. On top of that, I have saved probably $50 or so with it, and my bank (BMO) gave it to me for free!

  24. tanya says:

the only way to get a vip card this year is to win one from the scp facebook page lulu will not have any I talked to them . It was not there chose spc was having problems because yes it is meant for students and everyone was getting the vip spc card . And yes at zellers if you do not have the vip card you must show valid student id and must be signed and no using the same card with friends
