Then you should consider this December star dash promo going on at Starbucks Canada from December 2nd – December 15th. How the promo will work is if you use a registered Starbucks card to pay for your Starbucks purchase on 5 separate occasions, earning 5 stars, between the participating competition dates then you will receive a $5 eGift card from Starbucks.
If you do complete this minimum of earning 5 stars, then you will receive an e-mail from Starbucks Rewards by January 5th, 2015 that will include your eGift card of $5. You are also allowed to use your registered app on your smart phone, if you have one linked to your account.
This deal is really great as you only need to get 5 different cups of coffee over the span of 13 days, which really isn’t very hard to accomplish. Especially when you consider that a short coffee is just under $2, meaning if you got five of these – that you would otherwise already be getting -then you would essentially be getting each cup of coffee for 50% off as you would get $5 back in the end. $5 is basically the cost of approximately 2.5 short coffees, which you could then put towards your daily coffee run.
You should be aware that Starbucks caters their rewards deals to the level of card status you are at, so the number of stars you will need to qualify may vary depending on how frequently you use your card, e.g. if you have a gold card, you may have to use your card 18 times between the specified dates.
I got the same email from starbucks but it says that you need to earn 12 stars to get the $5. Is this deal different for everyone or is this post wrong?
Hey Stephanie! I believe the deals are catered to each person specifically depending on how frequently they use their Starbucks card and what level their card status is; mine said I had to use 18! I think the 5 stars are only if you are a new card holder. Thanks for the heads up!

My email say I need 2 stars for the 5$ gc. I only have 5 stars right now.
Starbucks Reward deals are almost always specific to the customer. However, time and time again, they get posted here regardless. These should never be posted here because they are regularly unreliable and inconsistent. I’ve gotten one deal out of the past six postings that actually worked.
Mine was 18 stars too – way to reward loyal customers, Starbucks. I won’t be completing this offer, or buying ANY coffees there in December, as a matter of fact. 😛
Just a word of caution in case anyone thinks this is easy money.
I’ve competed 3 dashes in the past 2 years or so and every time the offer promised Starbucks would send the egift automatically but it never came.
Each time after the deadline date passed I had to contact Starbucks several times by email &/or telephone. It was almost as though the people in the Starbucks help centre were deliberately trying to stall me with redundant questions so emails kept swinging back and forth. If you want to call, the wait on the help lines is extremely long (10 to 25 minutes some people have reported.) The egifts finally were granted but the effort for $5 wasn’t worth the extra time and effort I had to put in, IMO.
If you have a lot of time & patience to monitor the situation and deal with the Stabucks help centre, and if you were going to spend the $ anyways, by all means sign up.
I have a gold card and I got that email and it says I only need 2 stars to get the e-gift.I just bought one coffee, 1 more to go! Cheers!
