  4. Liz Ward says:

haha love how they refer to Lindsay ontario as “kawartha lakes” that name is like saying GTA when referring to ajax or whitby =/

but anywho. I’ll be applying for the lindsay target wooo!

  5. krista says:

We have had a Target in Calgary for almost a year now… I wonder when more will be in Calgary.

  6. guest says:

So if you have zellers gift cards and zellers points, you have to spend it all soon right? or it goes to waste? Anyone know..

  7. lindsay says:

@ Krista, Actually there are NO stores in Canada right now, including Calgary. @ guest, HBC rewards are still good at the bay.

  8. Lulu says:

    WHAT!!Where is Ottawa??? ;(

  9. guest2 says:

@Lindsay, yes there are Target stores in Canada right now, we’ve had one in Edmonton for about a year. I expect Krista has actually seen her Calgary one too, so it’s not a just figment of our imagination!!

  10. Keem says:

    Yeah, where is Ottawa?!

  11. Jennifer says:

There are no Target store in Alberta… because there is no Target store in Canada.

  12. Jennifer says:

And yes, I do live in Alberta.

  13. Liandryn says:

All Target stores currently operating in Canada are likely part of the Target Apparel chain. They are not associated in any way with the Target Corporation that is buying out Zellers. They started popping up when Target announced its entry into Canada, apparently trying to capitalize on the publicity and hoping to force Target Canada to pay to use their trademarked name. Target Apparel has chosen the same colours for their stores and the word “apparel” is so small on their signs that it just looks like it says Target.

Kind of sneaky… They have one here in Nanaimo, BC and so many people were excited until they realized it wasn’t really Target. Can’t wait until we see some real Target stores out west!

  14. glowworm2k says:

It strikes me as a pretty bad PR move that all of the first stores are in the general vicinity of the T.dot. Seriously, why not open a few in each of the regions to start??

  15. CYW95 says:

would love to see one in Ottawa west as well, but of course, Toronto and area is the only place in Canada.
Still not going to stop me from going over the border to shop, until we get Kohls, Macy’s, JCPenney, Aldi, etc and the variety and prices they get in the states it is worth the 2 hour drive for me!

  16. onshopper says:

Not Barrie?? we really shop here!!!

  17. busyfoot98 says:

They are probably TARGET Essential stores…there is a difference. There are no actual Target stores in Canada as of yet….

  18. Sue says:

But but but…does anyone really think they’ll be that much different from Zellers? Same logo, same colour-branding, same store brands. And, I’m thinking, the pricing will be the same as Zellers so no deals. Meijer and Wal-Mart in Port Huron have same if not lower pricing than the Target. Found the same with local and national discount stores when we lived in Tampa. Target is okay but no big deal. It is very sad though that there will be no Canadian department stores left (unless it’s a small local one like Kingsmill in London, ON or Ogilvy’s (sp?) in Montreal.)

  19. DCH says:

I’m excited to see it come to my Hometown (Lindsay) usually they’re the last to get anything good so this is exciting. & It’s been the COKL (City of Kawartha Lakes) for a long time now Liz.

  20. Shannon says:

Bummer, I was sure that Stratford would be on the list. That Zellers is so trashed and in dire need of a facelift/bathroom gutting/personality adjustment.

  21. PBMAMA says:

Why are they all in Ontario??

Liandryn is correct if you are refering to the Target store at Northland mall krista, that is a target apparel and is not the same. That is the store that was sueing target for coming to Canada and using there name.

  22. XYZ says:

Wow. the people that think there is a target in Calgary obviously don’t know what Target is…

  23. sweetie0285 says:

Maybe they’re trying out one area to get a feel of how sales will go?

On another note, would anyone have an idea of what they’ll being doing with the zellers merchandise while they are switching to target? I mean, are they planning on having huge clearances or will they just re-label things?

  24. Dusk says:

For those interested in when the clearance sales will be starting, as of late March the Zellers stores listed on that list will begin liquidation. This means no flyer deals will apply to them, and they will begin their sale at 10% off everything in the store. As the weeks go on, items will go on for much higher percentages off, depending on sales in specific departments. So far there is no word on what departments will be getting the best deals.

The stores are shutting down mid-June, so you’ll have from March to June to get in on the good liquidation deals before the stores are officially gone.

Also note that many stores who have pharmacies, restaurants, photo studios and vision centres will be closing those areas of the store first (no specified dates, assume as early as March), as many of them are independently contracted and not owned by Zellers.

    Consider yourself informed 🙂
