If you are thinking about buying a tablet, you might want to check out this deal at The Source.  They are selling the 64GB Blackberry Playbook for only $299.99.  It retails for $699.99 so that’s savings of $400!  My brother actually has a Playbook and he really likes it.  He also has an iPad (he’s a programmer, so he likes the gadgets) and he says for going out he actually prefers the Playbook because it is smaller, lighter and has a better web browser.  You can buy online and have it shipped to your store for free too.

This is NOT a $400 saving, it’s a still worthwhile but much lower $100 saving. The regular price is $399.

    See http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/technology/tech-news/rim-chops-all-playbook-prices-to-299/article2289840/

Worse, especially given RIM are a Canadian company, the 64GB Playbook is $299 in the States…

    Oh well, still love it!

  4. Carol says:

anyone able to access free library books off the Kobo app on their playbook? I got one for Christmas and don’t know how to access the library books. Thanks.

  5. Niu says:

Carol, you have to create an account in Kobo to get the free books. You will be getting promotions from Kobo.

  6. Fei says:

@carol – you need to first create an account and then you can just browse their store, make sure to select “free” from the top right corner, then start downloading. all the books will be listed in your library

  7. Carolina says:

Hi Carol, to borrow the books from the library you need to download and install an app which can be found on the Library website. I’m in Toronto, and the Toronto Public Library uses Overdrive, which is available on their site and in the available apps section on Kobo. It took me a while to figure this out. They don’t make it easy for you as they really want you to buy the books from Chapters.

I bought a 16GB one today at London Drugs….$199….. same price as my daughters new white 8G itouch….currently it is updating itself…for the second time as the first time it didn’t work…!!! It will apparently soon be able to handle android apps?!?!….Hopefully by then I will know what they are and figure it all out!

Best Buy has lots of Playbooks in stock. All sizes are $299 (16 – 32- 64 GB).

The Source’s extended warranty is cheaper tho at 69.99 for 3 years vs. BB’s 119.99 for 3 years. You might be able to bargain at BB to get them to match the Source’s warranty. In my case they took the $50 difference and subtracted it from the PB rather than from the warranty.
