Wicked! My boyfriend is in Ontario and I will be going out there soon and have to take a train home. I hope he knows what dates I can come so we can book it before the sale is over! Thanks for the post!

If you are a Via Preference member, you can use the 10% off economy fares that was sent in a email. Click the link in the email and enter your email addy for the ecoupon to be sent to your email addy. The ecoupon has 2 codes that will be needed to be entered during booking… select promotion in the box and 2 other boxes appear for entering the 2 codes. You have til end of July 19th (Monday) to use the ecoupon along with the special discounts.

I was able to use the ecouon on a return trip from Ottawa to Quebec City where the special discounts gave me a fare of $96 and change. After applying the ecoupon the fare came to $87.01.

    FARE DETAILS (Adult) $87.01
    Fare: $77.00 G.S.T./H.S.T.: $10.01 P.S.T.: $0.00 TOTAL CAD$: $87.01

Additionally, Via Preference members who travel this summer will receive 250 bonus points.

  4. hmmm it won’t give me the sale price from Halifax to Montreal only from Motreal to Toronto…..which is not much of a saving 🙁

@[email protected] – It should work…I just tried and got $91.60 from Halifax to Montreal…I tried a random date of August 18th, 2010. Make sure you do only one way and pick “supersaver” to get the summer 2010 sale.

Click on the link above, and then click on ‘discover east and west’…you will see a special from Montreal to Halifax to $91.60. Just switch this around and you will still get the same price from Halifax to Montreal. Hope this helps!

  6. Junkster says:

The special is limited and chances are if you don’t see the special fare… there may be no more deals for that trip. Try another day or different time. Double check the special and supersaver rate… they might be the same price. Noticed that when checking out fares… so it may not have anymore special fares but may have supersaver fares.

  7. Lily says:

Oh man! Too bad I have nowhere to go this summer!!
This would have been a SUPER sweet deal!!!

  8. thanks julyprincess, but I tried August 1-5th and the supersaver rate is sold out, I have to be there for the 5th so I cant go later. I even called VIA rail and they said they are sold out on the Halifax- Montreal until August 14th 🙁 so I guess it’s the bus ughhhh hubby wont fly.

Most excellent! I managed to book a train trip from Edmonton to Vancouver (where I am going on holidays) for a great price….it was just a bit more than $100 for me and my husband per person. Because of the previous “kids travel for $10 promotion”, though, it coincided, and I got that applied on top of it! very good prices!

  10. Junkster says:

Nadine – That is a sweet deal for you since train travel in Western Canada is pretty expansive. But you should also check the last minute deals that comes out every Thursday… they have even better deals for western and eastern trains. I’ve taken the eastern train both in a cabin and in economy seating and I found it is more comfortable to be in a cabin… especially if you get first dibs on dining service and access to the panoramic car.

  11. Nadine says:

Junkster- Yeah, thanks, we are happy, this is our first train trip. 🙂

I know about the “express deals” (or whatever they are called-they claim up to 75% off) but being that we are taking a child with us, this is actually cheaper since it offers 60% off to start, and that is not even factoring in the super-cheap $10 travel for our eight-year old.

If I were to book a cabin or any of the sleeping berth rates at 75% off, assuming they were available, a. they are pricier than an economy class at 60% off, even after discounting, b. the $10 child fare applies ONLY to economy-class seats.

    Just wanted to share that!

  12. JEn says:

  13. joan says:
