Walmart Canada Updating Home Shipping Charges: No Longer Offering Free Shipping With No Minimums

0619-wlmart

It was bound to happen sooner or later, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. I had just hoped that Walmart Canada’s free-shipping on all orders offer would stick around for a while longer, as they are one of the few e-retailers who still offered this service. Not only is Walmart changing their shipping services so that they no longer offer free-shipping on all orders with no minimum purchase required, but they are upping their free-shipping threshold to a whopping $50. This does seem to be the standard minimum threshold that most retailers offer, but to go from having no minimum to $50 seems like a bit of an unfair jump.

Walmart, however, will continue to offer free-shipping on all orders that are sent to one of the more than 5,000 pickup locations across the country, and there will be no minimum purchase required for these orders. If you do select to have your order shipped to your home, and you are below the $50 minimum, then you will have to pay $4.97 in shipping and handing fees, which to be fair, is not as bad as some retailers shipping fees.

Hopefully Walmart will consider having free-shipping days with no minimum purchases required, or even run promotional events where they cover the shipping with a promo code. We will just have to wait and see.

This new shipping offer will come into effect on April 2nd, so if there are any products below $50 that you would like to buy before the shipping minimum increases, I’d suggest you act now on those purchases.

Oh heck, so much for online shopping from them. I will just buy my stuff from my local Target,,,oh wait, that will not work anymore..hmmmm OK, my local Future shop , wait, did I not just read something about that, oh ya…closing as well.

Great…..what was their, Walmar, shipping cost again?

I think most people saw this coming when Walmart had high amounts of $1 orders in the hope of sample items with their order, but $50 is pretty high for a threshold. I had guessed $35 like the US

Ironic the 2 competitors amazon.ca and walmart.ca are both ran buy the same logistics company SCI logistics.

So disappointed. I loved shopping on walmart.ca when I needed just a few items that I didn’t want to grab in store. My purchases were usually $25-$40. I should have known it wouldn’t last forever! Well.ca was the same way before I remember. I used to shop a lot from them until they changed their shipping policies. Very frustrating.

Too high, they will be losing my business. $30 would have been tolerable.

  6. Clarence says:

Way too high Walmart. Should’ve met Amazon at the $25 point for free shipping

Walmart is really just bullying everyone around and it really seems like it won’t become any better . Too bad people will probably still continue to order from them online. I bet they will soon raise their prices on evrything even more since all the competion is fading.

I see a monopoly happening here

For my rural area they’ve already charged $50 to send to our local post office for a while! Terrible!

  9. Sally says:

    This is just the beginning!
With Target gone, Walmart will become the only game in town and will do whatever they want. This is just the start of a long list of price increases from Walmart.
To all those who wanted Target gone, be careful what you wish for. You might just have a bigger giant to slay!

Maybe they should just use drones??
