You’ll perhaps remember a few months back when we posted about how Farm Boy Canada was planning on opening up at least 10 new locations within the GTA this year, perhaps making competing grocers like Loblaw’s and Longo’s cringe a little at the fact that this locally established chain that specializes in providing fresh, local produce would be branching out into Toronto. Well, this past week saw the opening of the new location at the Shoppes of Alderwood plaza at Brown’s Line and Evans Avenue, and people were stoked to see the opening of this Ontario local haunt within the GTA.
The local produce section is certainly one of the finer highlights of Farm Boy’s offerings, though they’re small-batch private label products are something akin to our southern neighbour’s Trader Joe’s labels; they provide everything from salad dressings and spices to even carrying their own chocolate covered snacks and other salted delights.

Metrolinx and Loblaw Companies Limited are working together to bring online grocery shopping and pick up to select GO Transit stations this spring. This is the first time this type of service will be offered at transit stations in Canada. The service will allow commuters to pre-order groceries online for pick up during their next day’s commute. It will begin in five GO Transit stations this spring, and is expected to expand in phases to additional sites in the region.
Loblaw’s PC Express service, an evolution in their click-and-collect model, will make the trip home for GO customers even easier. With this service, there will be no need to make an extra stop at the grocery store on the way home from work. Instead, customers can shop online and their groceries will be waiting for them when they arrive at their GO station. As long as they place their orders before 12 a.m. the night before, groceries will be ready for them the next day on their afternoon trip home.
For the first phase of the project, PC Express locations will be at five GO stations—Bronte, Oakville, Clarkson, Rouge Hill and Whitby. Groceries will come from nearby Fortinos or Loblaws stores depending on location. They will be waiting in a special delivery truck, in lockers or in an enclosed kiosk depending on the station to allow us to test different delivery methods. After the initial phase is complete and key lessons are learned, PC Express pick-up locations will roll out to more GO stations across the region.
“Our customers lead busy lives and this exciting new service—a first in Canada—will make their trips home that much quicker,” said Phil Verster, President and CEO of Metrolinx. “There will now be a new benefit to taking the GO train, with the ability to pick up groceries at five different stations through Loblaw’s PC Express pick-up service, with more to come. This is just another way we’re making it better, faster and easier to take transit.”
“This is a logical extension of our increasingly popular e-commerce services, and the growing customer appeal for ordering groceries online and picking them up when it’s most convenient,” said Jeremy Pee, SVP, E-Commerce, Loblaw Companies Limited. “With PC Express pick up locations, we’re giving customers and commuters the best brands and products we have to offer, easy online ordering, and some time back in their day.”
Cherished for its ability to speed up cooking by 2-10 times, while also using 70% less energy than traditional pressure cookers, the Instant Pot is coming under some unwanted external heat after reports surfaced that some of their customers were experiencing overheating and, in some cases, melting of their products.
The Canadian cooking appliance company has since asked that the affected model, the Gem 65 8-in-1 multi cookers, stop being used by their customers after learning that some of these cookers were actually melting on the underside of the product due to extreme overheating.
In a statement issued on their Facebook page, the company went on to say that: “We believe the problem only affects batchcodes 1728, 1730, 1731, 1734, and 1746.”
You can find the batchcode for your Instant Pot by first finding the four-digit product code that is underneath the label of the product.
It should also be heavily emphasized that this is not a product recall, but rather an advisory from the company to stop using the product any further.
“We want you to know that we take any problem with our products extremely seriously as safety and quality are our primary concern, and we are working cooperatively with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission,” the company said.
More information on the status of the Instant Pot’s that are affected by this advisory is expected to come out in the next few weeks, the statement on their website continued. This will also include updates about whether or not customers will receive a replacement or will be required to recall the item.
IKEA Canada is recalling IKEA brand Marshmallow candy (GODIS PÅSKKYCKLING) from the marketplace due to possible contamination from mice infestation. These products may contain harmful bacteria. Consumers should not consume the recalled product described below.
