On Saturday, June 13th at 3:30pm, you can check out a free screening of the award winning Canadian documentary, Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance at the TIFF Lightbox theatre. This film was the first documentary at the Toronto Film Festival to win the Best Canadian Feature award when it premiered at the festival in 1993, even after it was initially rejected from being shown on CBC television.

The documentary follows the stand-off between Mohawk activists and the Canadian government during a land dispute the two rivals had in 1990. After the proposal for a golf course in Oka, Quebec was put forth, there followed a 78 day standoff between the two sides, all of which was documented closely by Alanis Obomsawin.

Though this movie is being screened for free at the TIFF Lightbox, the tickets will only go on sale 2-hours before the event and each person will be limited to one ticket each.
