I know with the weather expecting to take a plunge into the single digits this weekend, I’ll be breaking out my heavier fall coats to fight the frost. If you’re not like me, who has more coats then they know what to do with, then you may want to head over to Old Navy Canada to get your cold weather coat fix as they are having a 30% off sale on all outerwear.

The outerwear offer at Old Navy will only be available from today until tomorrow, October 17th, at 11:59pm EST. Unfortunately, for those of us who like to do our shopping in-store, this offer will only be available online. That being said, I was able to find this chic looking funnel coat (which also comes in black and creme) for just $38.46 (regularly $54).

To receive the 30% off discount on the outerwear, you will have to use the promo code, TWOFER, at the checkout. In addition to the outerwear sale, this promo code will also secure you an additional 20% off on the rest of your order. The only items that the extra 20% cannot be applied to are Everyday Steals, Hot Deals and, of course, outerwear.
If you spend over $50 online at Old Navy Canada you will also qualify for free-shipping.

Hatley Canada is having a massive outlet sale this week where you can pick up winter essentials for your kiddies, or even a new pair of boxers, for up to 50% off. On top of this, you will also be able to go through check out without paying any extra for shipping and handling as it is all FREE this week without any minimums.

While most of us would head straight to the kiddies section to check out what kind of deals they have going on, which I can assure you, there is plenty to choose from, I’d also advise checking out the women’s section. While there, I was able to find this trendy nautical striped lined raincoat for just $86. The price will initially be advertised as $172, but once you add the coat to your cart it should be reduced to being half that price.

When you do decide to dip into the kids outlet section at Hatley, you’ll be hard pressed to miss these adorable fuzzy hats they are selling for half-off the regular price. These hats are as functional as they are fun for your kids to wear. They’re currently on sale for just $12.50, though they’re normally sold for $25.
As mentioned earlier, Hatley will be offering free-shipping on all orders this week with no minimum purchase required.

Using electricity is about to become even more expensive in Ontario. The Energy Board approved a price hike for hydro rates starting on November 1st.
Under the new price structure, hydro use during off-peak hours will increase 0.3 cents to 8.3 cents per kWh, use during mid-peak hours will increase 0.6 cents to 12.8 cents per kWh and on-peak use will increase 1.4 cents to 17.5 cents per kWh.

The largest increase is to peak use, which will increase 1.4¢/kWh while mid peak and off peak will increase by smaller amounts. The Ontario Energy Board have said that this is an increase of about 3.4% and will cost an average family about $4.42 extra per month. Obviously, your increase will differ based on your typical use but it is definitely an incentive to use less power during the day. Once summer hits, the timing of peak use will change based on higher use of air-conditioners during the day.
If you are a low income family, you can apply for the Ontario Electricity Support Program for a credit of up to $50 per month starting later this month. Click here for details or to see if you qualify.

Get your Halloween geek on at the Canadian online retailer ThinkGeek this weekend, and if you spend over $40 – which trust me, won’t be very difficult with the outrageous selection of Halloween goodies ThinkGeek has in-stock – and you will receive a free ThinkGeek t-shirt.

The t-shirt that ThinkGeek is selling is this Halloween themed Mad Max graphic tee that would normally be sold for $19.99, but if you add $40 worth of other Halloween product to your cart and enter the promo code, WHATADAY, you will receive this hilarious tee for free.

ThinkGeek has a great selection of Halloween decorations and even better selection of costumes, that range in difficulty from very easy to more intensive. This R2-D2 fit and flare dress costume is just $44.99, which is just above the minimum qualifying amount for a free t-shirt. Or you could just stock up on these awesome super hero tees, like this Incredible Hulk Tee, which are only $19.99 and could easily be worn after Halloween.
This free t-shirt offer is only available until October 31st, or until stock sells out, whichever comes first.
Shipping and handling is free when you spend $75 or more. Otherwise, it will be a flat-rate fee of $6.95 USD.

Walmart Canada has loaded up a weekend of hot web crasher deals for us to stock up on everything from long-sleeve tees to batteries and water bottles. These deals are starting at as little as $3, and most of the items falling under the $25 cut-off.

For instance, this G21 long sleeve scoop neck tee is currently on sale for just $3, though it was originally more than double that, being sold for $7. There are several colours to choose from, including this very fall appropriate deep red, but the sizes are quickly selling out (as of this posting, this colour only had sizes left in small, medium and extra large).

If you’re looking to get your fitness on, then these web crasher deals at Walmart may be exactly what you need to revamp your fitness routine. This Aura (500mL) water bottle is now just $10 (was $14), this speed jump rope is only $7.50Â (was $9.96), and this equipment mat is now only $25 (was $34.96).

With the cold snap in the weather, you may be looking for something cozy to snuggle up in for the even colder months that are fast approaching. These Fruit of the Loom men’s fleece pants are now just $7. And if you’d like, you could top it off with this Athletic Works trek jacket (now only $15) to create a full body cocoon of warmth.
Walmart offers free-shipping on all orders that are $50 or more, or you can opt to have your order shipped to a pick-up centre for free.

The Shopping Channel Canada has brought us a nice little incentive to finally checkout those items that have been sitting in our shopping carts for an embarrassingly long time (for me at least!) From today until October 10th, when you make any purchase online at the Shopping Channel (including purchases on gift cards) you can receive a free $10 savings card for future purchases at the Shopping Channel.

The savings card will be distributed to your provided Shopping Channel mailing address, and if you have not supplied on then they will send it to the e-mail address that you use for your account. The savings cards won’t begin to ship until after October 15th, so give it some time.
Once you receive your $10 savings card, you will have until December 31st, 2015 to use it online at the Shopping Channel. Each customer will be permitted one savings card per account, and you will be allowed to use one savings card per transaction.
I’d advise you to check out today’s showstopper deals if this savings card interests you at all. For today only, you can pick up a Dell 15″ Inspiron A10 Windows 10 Laptop for just $799.99 (regularly $1, 199.99). Plus, the shipping and handling is FREE for today only too.

Until this Monday, October 5th, when you’re shopping online at the Children’s Place Canada, you can save 40% off on your entire purchase. To receive these savings, you’ll have to use the limited time promo code ONLINE40 at the checkout.
The coupon can only be used once per paying customer and the discount will be applied before all taxes and shipping fees have been calculated.

This would be an excellent time to stock up on some of your kiddies cold weather essentials, as a discount of 40% off can be quite substantial. When using the online promo code on this long sleeve favourite jacket (which they also have available for boys at the same price), I only ended up having to pay $23.97 – though it was originally being sold for $39.95.

The Children’s Place has a great selection of these fleece fall jackets for boys and girls of all ages. I personally love these kind of coats as they make for great layering pieces during these transitional months. You can throw them on your kids for apple picking this weekend, and later in the season layer with a vest and a scarf for the cooler October days.
The Children’s Place offers a flat-rate shipping fee of $8.

For the next couple of days, Guess Canada is loading up the deals so that you can enjoy savings of up to 60% off.
To receive these deals, you’ll have to shop Guess’s mid-season sale online, where pieces have been marked down by 60% off – with no promo code necessary. Keep in mind that this sale will only be around until next Thursday, October 8th.

There are too many awesome deals to list them all here, but one of the finer ones that I found was on this fun and eye-catching Audrey 2-in-1 tote bag. The bag was originally being sold for $115, was then reduced to $109.99, but was then further brought down to being just $46.99. That’s a total saving of $68!
If you’re a man who doesn’t see quite the same thrill in a 2-in-1 tote bag as some of your ladies friend would, there are still some hot finds for you in this sale. For instance, this short-sleeved tee from Guess is now just $19.60, though it was originally being sold for $49.60!

You’ll remember that I also mentioned that Guess is running another sale along side their mid-season sale, except this one is available for a shorter time and on a much more limited selection of clothing. The Fall Favourites sale is only available online for the next two days (ending on October 4th) and you’ll have to use the promo code, SHOPFIRST, to receive 50% off on select fall pieces.
I was able to use the code to pick up a pair of Guess denim skinny jeans for just $64. Usually, these jeans would’ve been just outside my comfort zone – sitting at a rather lofty $128 – but with the 50% off promo code they’re reduced to being a much more favourable price tag.

And the last deal of Guess’s extensive line up for this week is their limited time offer of 30% off select outerwear and shoes. This deal is available online and in-store, and there is no coupon or promo code necessary as the prices shown already reflect the discount. This deal requires a bit of digging, but once you find something you like it’ll surely be worth the effort. Take this long-sleeve zip moto jacket, that was originally being sold for $138, which is now just $96.60.
Guess will only be running this outerwear and shoes sale until October 12th at 11:59pm EST.
Guess offers free-shipping on orders that are over $99, just remember to enter the promo code FREESHIP99 at the checkout.

Discount airline WOW Air is really living up to its name with its latest announcement. The airline just announced a plan that offers travellers flights from Montreal or Toronto to Iceland for $99 one way as well as travel to numerous destinations in Europe for only $149! This Iceland based airline says service via Reykjavik will start in Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau airport on May 12, 2016, and out of Toronto’s Pearson airport on May 20, 2016.
The costs given are of course just the one way base fares, so all applicable airport charges and taxes are still in effect, but even with taxes, this could end up being one of the most affordable way for Canadians to see Europe. For extra fees, you can also purchase add-ons and upgrades for your flight such as up to $106 to change a ticket, up to $82 for extra leg room, and up to $246 to check three heavy bags.
This newer airline launched in 2011 and has quickly grown with it’s basic amenities flights for European travellers. WOW is now expanding into North America, with flights east already launched in Boston and Baltimore earlier this year. The expansion seems to be working as WOW claims that passenger loads rose by 45% in June and August compared to the same period last year.
In addition to Reykjavik, other European destinations WOW offers service to include London, Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Dublin.
WOW’s expansion into Canada will create about 100 new jobs between Montreal and Toronto’s airports. Both services will operate year round, and departures will leave on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Turkeys are popping up in grocery store flyers for Thanksgiving, but there are some differences in the types of turkey that may make paying more worthwhile.
According to the Turkey Farmers of BC:
Turkeys are graded according to quality of appearance. Canada A turkeys are well shaped, meaty with even fat covering.
Canada Utility turkeys are birds with minor skin tears or one or more parts missing which in no way affects the quality. Use these turkeys for cutting up or when carving before serving. There is no quality or taste difference between a Canada A grade turkey or Utility grade turkey.
All turkeys processed in a federally inspected plant bear a âCanada Approvedâ or âCanadaâ health inspection stamp. This stamp tells you that the product is safe to eat.
So do check for that Canada stamp, as meat is shipped across the border. The USDA have imposed different rulings, so US turkeys may not have the same standards based on rating. There will be some difference in the quality and taste of meat between even Grade A turkeys depending on the age when they are slaughtered, what they are fed and how they are kept (free range vs factory etc). Don’t forget that you can shop at FreshCo and price-match a Grade A turkey for the price of the competitor’s utility turkey if you live near a store.
As far as frozen vs fresh, for me it is always fresh because they take so long to thaw, but they say there is no difference in quality once thawed.
Frozen turkeys are flash-frozen immediately after they are packaged to 0 degrees F or less, and are kept frozen until they are purchased. Once thawed, the meat of a frozen turkey is virtually as fresh as the day it was packaged.
Fresh turkeys are chilled after packaging, rather than frozen. Because they require special handling and have a shorter shelf-life than frozen birds, fresh turkeys are often more expensive than their frozen counterparts.
Happy turkey hunting! Are you buying a turkey for Thanksgiving? Will it be Grade A or will you get a utility turkey?

This weekend is going to be a big one at the Hudson’s Bay Canada, as they are hosting one of their friends and family events where you can save up to an extra 20% off on almost anything in-store and online. Simply use the promo code, FRIENDS, at checkout and if you’re paying with your Hudson’s Bay MasterCard or Credit Card you will receive the extra 20% off on nearly anything. If you’re using any other form of tender your discount will only be 15% off on almost anything, and if you’re purchasing any of the following products (with any form of payment again) your discount will only be 10% off:
- furniture and mattresses
- appliances and cookware
- personal care electrics
- vacuums and confectionary
- bakeware and gadgets

The Hudson’s Bay is well known for offering an eclectic collection of high-end designer products as well as more moderately priced pieces, though I thought with an extra 20% off it would make most sense to use your discount on some of the more pricey pieces that you ordinarily couldn’t justify buying. These Citizens of Humanity jeans, which are normally sold for close to $200, are now only $168.30 when you punch in your family and friends (FRIENDS) promo code.

This promo code is even valid on already discounted products, such as this Crock Pot Digital Slow Cooker which is currently on sale for $74.99 (originally $94.99). With your extra 10% off promo code, the Crock Pot will be further reduced to $67.49, meaning you’ll be saving a total of $27.50 from what the Crock Pot originally cost.
The Hudson’s Bay will only be offering this family and friends discount until September 27th.
The Hudson’s Bay also offers free-shipping on all orders that are $99 or more.
