Shoppers Drug Mart Canada Black Friday 2014 Sale: Save 20% off Regular Priced Items

shoppers-drug-mart-black-friday

With the anticipation building of what to expect for this year’s Black Friday sales, shoppers can begin to gain some insight as to what some of those deals are shaping up to look like, specifically at Shoppers Drug Mart Canada

Though we cannot guarantee that this deal will be available at all Shoppers locations on Black Friday, there are confirmations of there being a door crasher event at some Shoppers Drug Mart’s around Canada on the opening day of the sale. From 7am-noon, customers shopping with their Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum card will be able to participate in a 20% off savings event on all regular priced merchandise in-store.

This 20% off Black Friday sale would be an excellent time to take advantage of some electronics purchases, like the Nintendo 3DS or on a new Playstation 4  or Xbox One – all of which rarely get marked down at Shoppers Drug Mart.

And for all other customers at Shoppers Drug Mart, you will be able to take advantage of deals going on all day, such as the 50-75% off on selected fragrances and up to 50% off on select digital cameras.

While none of these deals can be confirmed, it would be advisable to sign-up for a free Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum card anyways before next weekend to prepare for any possible exclusive deals being held at Shoppers Drug Mart; plus, it’s free so you really have nothing to lose!

Should the 20% off all regular priced items be a real deal, what products do you think would be at the top of your Shoppers wish list?

Moose Knuckles Canada Coupon Deal: Use the Promo Code, WELCOME30, and Receive 30% Off Your Entire Order

moose-knuckles-canada-black-bomber-jackets_3_

For a limited time, the Canadian site Moose Knuckles known for their wide offering of warm weather wear (often, a bit overpriced) will be having a promotional code deal that when used at checkout will give you 30% off your entire purchase.

Screen Shot 2014-11-18 at 11.20.59 AM

Since the online dealer Moose Knuckles is known to be a bit out of most our price ranges, I would suggest scoping out the sale section where you can find deals on coats and jackets, like this Staal shirt jacket with a metal sleeve logo which has been marked down from $198
to $99. With the 30% off on top of that, this jacket would be $69.30, or rather over 60% off its original price!

Remember that shipping from Moose Knuckle is a standard flat fee of $25.

store_microsoft_eatoncentre_opening

Now, the details are out and if you’re willing to get up early and wait in line, you can score on some of the deals Microsoft will be giving away on their grand opening at the Eaton Centre.

Screen Shot 2014-11-15 at 2.12.07 PM

For the one day only, Microsoft will be selling the Dell Venue 8 Pro (32GB) for $99, a tablet which normally retails for anywhere between $219-$299. There will be a limit of 1 per customer, and you will only be able to get this exclusive price at the Toronto Eaton Centre.

Microsoft will also be offering, for this one day only grand opening, the Xbox 360 (4GB) for the same discounted price of $99. Though the hard drive on this console is small, the discount of almost 50% (regularly, $179) is still a pretty sweet deal.

Buying a Turkey For Holidays? Turkey Lingo

Other / Canada 8 comments

roastturkey

Turkeys are popping up in grocery store flyers for the holidays, but there are some differences in the types of turkey that may make paying more worthwhile.

According to the Turkey Farmers of BC:

Turkeys are graded according to quality of appearance. Canada A turkeys are well shaped, meaty with even fat covering.

Canada Utility turkeys are birds with minor skin tears or one or more parts missing which in no way affects the quality. Use these turkeys for cutting up or when carving before serving.  There is no quality or taste difference between a Canada A grade turkey or Utility grade turkey.

All turkeys processed in a federally inspected plant bear a “Canada Approved” or “Canada” health inspection stamp. This stamp tells you that the product is safe to eat.

So do check for that Canada stamp, as meat is shipped across the border.  The USDA have imposed different rulings, so US turkeys may not have the same standards based on rating.  There will be some difference in the quality and taste of meat between even Grade A turkeys depending on the age when they are slaughtered, what they are fed and how they are kept (free range vs factory etc).  Don’t forget that you can shop at FreshCo and price-match a Grade A turkey for the price of the competitor’s utility turkey if you live near a store.

As far as frozen vs fresh, for me it is always fresh because they take so long to thaw, but they say there is no difference in quality once thawed.

Frozen turkeys are flash-frozen immediately after they are packaged to 0 degrees F or less, and are kept frozen until they are purchased. Once thawed, the meat of a frozen turkey is virtually as fresh as the day it was packaged.

Fresh turkeys are chilled after packaging, rather than frozen. Because they require special handling and have a shorter shelf-life than frozen birds, fresh turkeys are often more expensive than their frozen counterparts.

Happy turkey hunting!

Printing Coupons: Java Troubleshooting (SmartSource)

Many forum members have mentioned issues printing SmartSource coupons recently.

According to SmartSource, often the issue comes from java updates on your computer.  Your computer asks for an update, you click yes, but it does not fully uninstall the old version and some browsers (especially Firefox and Internet Explorer) have issues when there are multiple versions of java installed.

If you have issues printing coupons requiring a coupon printer (SmartSource, Qples etc) try removing java and installing a fresh copy.

  • Go to control panel, choose Add/Remove Programs and find Java (it may be listed several times) – choose uninstall/remove
  • Java also offer a removal tool to ensure you have removed all versions if that is easier for you
  • Go to java.com and install the most recent version for your browser
  • Go to their verification page to ensure your browser recognizes the most recent version

That should help you print if you experience issues.  Personally I just print coupon from Opera as I find it has the least issues with the various coupon printer sites.

Canadian Quick Questions: Should Governments Legislate Your Child’s Chores?

chores

Spain recently approved legislation that requires children to

  • help out with the housework ‘in accordance with their age and regardless of their gender;
  • ‘participate in family life’ and respect ‘their parents and siblings’
  • ‘respect school rules’ and ‘study as required’
  • children ‘will have to maintain a positive attitude about learning’
  • ‘respect their teachers and other staff at education teachers’

Most of them seem like things children should be doing anyway, but what do you think of the government legislating how you parent.  Currently they do not have penalties in place if children do not follow through on these new laws but they may follow when the bill goes to final approval.  As children, we were expected to help with chores but the government making that decision for my parents seems like too much too me.

Side note – Spain already has a legal requirement in its marriage contract for men to help with all household duties including childcare – with legal ramifications including impacting divorce settlements!

What do you think of the new law?
