Goderich Ontario Canada Tornado Disaster. How To Help and Online Auction

Announcements

blog

As most of you already know Goderich Ontario named “the prettiest town in Canada” was hit by a F3 tornado Sunday afternoon. This hit really close to home for myself.  Thankfully my friends and family are safe, some have extensive damage to their homes and or workplaces, but they are safe.

Here is some information if you’d like to help donate:

Outside of Huron County and if you want to donate or volunteer, you can call the toll-free # Toll-Free: 1-866-743-7818 or TTY: 1-888-435-6086
Within Huron County call 2-1-1.

There are quite a few families with nothing but their clothes on their backs. They can use toiletries, clothing, etc.

I spent the afternoon helping a friend move debris off their yard and cut trees. It is truly heartbreaking.

A wonderful Auction has been made on Facebook with 100% of alll donations going directly to Goderich.  I have personally donated an Amazon gift certificate from the mods of Sc, if you would like to help donate you can also bid on that.

Why can’t we ask some of the third world countries to help US FOR A CHANGE.

  2. Sally says:

They are third world countries. They dont have stuff for themselves let alone us.

That was a pretty dissapointing comment.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this tornado.

Close to home for me as well. WOW and now an earthquake. Global warming is making itself known. We couponers use more plasics than most as it pays for us to get the smaller size or the whole razor rather than just the blades. Just examples but as a team we should come up with a plan that minimizes our carbon foot prints. Don’t jump all over me it’s just a thought that my daughter and I think of often. As to the third world countries have you ever been to one off the resort no help can come from them as they are unable to help themselves. I’m already planning all the stuff I can take to them on my winter vacation.

    Meant PLASTICS: )

    Sandra,

I hate to say this but ..that comment was dumb as hell.

Instead of showing empathy for those involved in this tornado you would rather play the 3rd world card.

My uncle and aunt and cousin live there and I have yet to hear that they are okay.
I”m happy to hear about all volunteers and people extending an outreached hand.
Now is not the time for critical judgmental comments. People’s lives are devastated and negative energy does not help them.

I live 20 minutes from Goderich and all of us in Huron County are still in shock. I shop in Goderich once a week and it really was a pretty little town, I sure hope that the Ontario Government helps to rebuild, it’s devastating to not have a roof over your head and/or no job as 75% of the businesses on the square have been affected.

I had a chance to visit this small town, and I fell in love with it instantly. It’s heartbreaking to see the damage and devastation there! I hope they recover soon!

I live 10 min from goderich and work there(my buisness is still standing – thank god!). My husband has lost his job as the evaporator plant is all but destroyed. Most of us are still in shock and the pictures online are horrible but the real thing is completly devestating. Thank you for all the kind words from all my SC friends….this place truly is a great community:)

  11. Sally says:

Solosaver, one of my best friends works there… shes still in shock…

My mom lives in Goderich and I (along with my 2 dogs) just spent 8 days up there. I left a week before it happened. My mom’s SUV got crushed and trees fell on their house but they are lucky they didn’t lose their roof like the neighbours did. They are 2 blocks from the ‘square’ which is the most damaged. I had just brought up a huge box of toiletries to donate to the Goderich women’s shelter and I wish I were able to go up again to bring the rest of my ‘stash’ to those who need it.

  13. Dinglehopper says:

ydejonghughes: I heard that everyone is accounted for – so that’s a good sign.

  15. My husband and I have been going to Goderich on weekends in the summer for a number of years and it is indeed the prettiest little town in Ontario. Our hearts go out to the people there and we know that the townspeople will come together to help each other. That is the way they are.
