Today’s the 3rd day of DELL Canada deals. The deals are:

These deals are pretty bad.

Don’t bother with the Sanyo Digital Movie Camera. Because of its ultra compact size the video quality isn’t super. Still image quality is not as good as some high end Digital Cameras. So basically you’re sacrificing quality for size… a sacrifice I wouldn’t do.

The Lexmark Laser Printer for $299 is a rip off.

The Creative Cam Optia Webcam is reasonably priced at $49 and it has a high resolution but it doesn’t come with a built in microphone!! which is definitely a major drawback. I also find that if you’re planning to use the webcam just for video conferencing with friends and family, then the higher resolution doesn’t provide much of an advantage because you’re limited by your Internet speed.

The SD 4GB High Capacity SD Memory Card SDHC for $39 is okay, but BEWARE this is an SDHC model that won’t work with all electronic devices. Make sure this card will work properly on your device before buying it.

In a nutshell, today’s deals are appalling.

Just a heads up for the next time you forget your cell phone at home. As of last week, the cost of a local call on a Bell Canada payphone is 50 cents. I think it’s safe to assume that other payphone companies will follow.

It’s a been a long time coming — not only has there not been an increase in payphone costs since 1981 (back then they were a dime) but competition from mobile phones has pretty much rendered the standard payphone obsolete. They’re really only there for the small percentage of the population that hasn’t gone cellular yet and for when the rest of us forget our mobile devices on the charger at home.

In a different age I could see a lot of people getting bent out of shape about this, but really – does anyone care that the cost of a phone call has doubled?

There aren’t a lot of spectacular name brand specials this week except Safeway has started another 4 Week “Summer” Buy 5 name brands get 50 bonus AirMiles. This offer comes with bonus AMs if you buy multiples of most of the 40 or so products highlighted. Buy 5 specials and you get a 50 AM bonus on top.

As I’ve said in the past:

1. I find it hard to find 5 of 40 I like or will consume

2. They often have the price boosted from the week before

3. House brands are often a better deal

4. Larger sizes without bonus AMs are often a better deal

Good deals from DELL today 🙂 Looks like I might be getting my credit card out 🙁

Today’s DELL Canada deals are:

• DELL UltraSharp 2007WFP 20.1-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor $399 $299

The 20.1 inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor is an ultrasharp model. DELL’s ultrasharp models are of extremely high quality and display very solid colours and a true black. Other models, like the 22” regular (not ultrasharp) costs $299 or even less but if you’re picky about colours I’d actually go for this deal. I have two DELL monitors at home, an ultrasharp one and a regular one, and the difference is noticeable, especially the black colour… but I’m a fussy person 😛

In a nutshell, if your main priority is quality and colour the DELL UltraSharp 20.1-inch for $299 an awesome deal. If you use your computer to check emails and browse the net and aren’t too picky about colours that’s not the right deal for you.

MICROSOFT Wireless Optical Desktop 700 Keyboard for $29 is very reasonably priced. But don’t expect the greatest mouse and keyboard designs.

The SANYO Digital Cordless Touch-Keypad Telephone with caller ID and Speakerphone for $59 is definitely a hot deal! I’m buying one of these phones as soon as I finish writing this review. This phone has a good sound quality, very low interference (will not interfere with your wireless modem) and it looks very stylish and elegant. Only complaints, is that the touch keypad is too sensitive, but that’s not a big deal

The other two deals are crap.

I like this ad. It’s clear, to the point and not as cheesy as Apple’s usual ads. At least they’re sort of attacking their own product, and not a Microsoft product for a change.

I found it hard to review these products. Their prices are very reasonable, but whether these products are worth your money in the first place is another issue.

The SlingBox uploads the TV stream through the Internet so that wherever you have Internet access, you can watch TV. You can watch TV at work, at the beach, in your cottage or wherever you have Internet access. Don’t expect high quality TV streaming but it’ll do the job and keep you entertained. You don’t have to pay any monthly fees for the SlingBox service. $199 is a pretty good price for this device. Older models have been on sale for cheaper prices but this price is very good for this newer model.

$149 for a 500GB External USB Hard Drive is a good price but external hard drive prices tend to drop quickly, so if you have no particular use for it there’s no need to rush yourself and buy this one.

The rest of the deals are mediocre.

For years I’d been told that this is the way Egg McMuffin’s were made, and when I saw them use one of these egg logs in Clerks II it felt like a confirmation of sorts. But it turns out I was wrong! Out of curiousity, I asked a McManager the other day and they assured me they use real eggs every morning. Who knew?

If there are any former McEmployees out there that can prove otherwise, I’d love to hear it. This was always one of those myths that made me chuckle and it kind of breaks my heart to find out it’s not true.
