Last week, The Bay started carrying Madonna and daughter, Lola’s clothing line, Material Girl. Featuring Kelly Osbourne as the new face, Material Girl was previously only exclusive at Macy’s in the US.
I was shocked at how affordable everything was, while in Buffalo this past summer. (I was gonna say “cheap”, but…) Call it a quarter-life-crisis, but I ended up buying a black lace tutu for $22USD, plus I got an additional 15% off ’cause I had “out of state ID”. It was a weird discount, but hey, I’m not complaining! See below.
Anyway, as soon as I heard that Material Girl launched in Canada*, I raced to the nearest Bay. Verdict? Nothing to write home about. The selection, at least at Square One, was very limited. There were 6 puny racks with maybe 3-4 different pieces.
Aside from the poor selection, what really stood out was the recycled designs circa H&M…last Spring! (Did they just decide to ship the leftovers to Canada?) I guess I just expected something different. Seriously, if there was no signage, also ugly btw, I’d walk right pass the entire section and head straight towards the perfume counters – my only other reason to step foot in there!
Furthermore, the clothing is Forever 21-quality at un-Forever 21 prices, the mannequins blend right into the background, the merchandising is completely uninspiring, and who was the stylist, grandpa who comes in to stock up on golf shirts during Bay Days? Blech.
I’d expect this weak set-up from Zellers, but The Bay? C’mon, certainly you can do better than that! I won’t put all the blame on the collection itself, as it seems obvious that The Bay doesn’t have high hopes for it!
Maybe there’s hope for next season…if it’s still ’round.
* Thanks, Sally!

Today Tim Hortons is introducing their version of a cold fruit smoothie. A 10-ounce smoothie will cost $1.99 and contain 130 calories, zero grams of fat and a full serving of fruit. You can add yogurt for 70 cents, adding another 30 calories. Flavours are mixed berry or strawberry banana. From what I can tell it’s made from a mix, not fresh fruit. I’m assuming it will basically be the same as what Coffee Culture offers currently. If in fact my assumptions are right I will not be rushing to Tim Hortons to get one.
Are you interested in trying the Tim Hortons Smootim?
Thanks Anniep for posting this on our forum.

Old Navy is offering 15% off online purchases of $50+ until March 9th 2011. Simply enter the code “ONMAPLE15” at checkout. Remember shipping is also free on purchases over $50. Time to stock up on spring clothes for the fam jam. Click here to shop @ Old Navy.

Until March 12th save $25 when you spend $100 or more at Roots stores or online.
Seems like tons of stores are offering this particular savings right now. Maybe they are trying to entice people to spend whatever money they have left over after Christmas and Valentines? If you happen to have any money left then it’s definitely a good time to be scoring some deals at the mall.
I don’t shop at Roots often, but the things I have purchased there have outlasted anything else in my closet. So they are definitely worth the extra cash.
Thanks couponlady!

Until March 22nd spend $100 or more in store at Penningtons and save $25 off your purchase… and if $25 off wasn’t enough you will also receive a $40 off $80 coupon redeemable between March 31 and April 19!
Pretty sweet deal if you’re in the market for some new Spring fashions 🙂
Thanks couponlady!

This is one of my favourite promos because it’s slightly better than 20x the points (this one is approximately 24x the points). Despite a higher spending limit of $75 to qualify for the points, I make sure to use coupons to reduce my out of pocket total. If you have any questions, SmartCanucks has a fantastic section dedicated to SDM and their Optimum program where we discuss and answer questions and share deals. You can check that out here.

It’s nice that The Children’s Place has introduced this program which is pretty much the same as Gymbucks from Gymboree. I always look forward to the redemption period for good sales and clearance deals.
