Target Confirms REDCard 5% Discount Will Be Available In Canada

In a press release today, Target confirmed they would be offering their popular RedCard in Canada.

The Target Debit Card, a proprietary Target Canada offering, will link to the cardholder’s existing chequing account and can be used only at Target stores in Canada.
Royal Bank of Canada will issue the no-annual fee Target RBC MasterCard, which offers cardholders not only REDcard 5% Rewards at Target, but also the ability to earn Target GiftCards® based on their purchases outside of Target.

Both will offer a discount of 5% on almost all items in store.  The fact that it links to my existing debit card and I do not have to sign up for a new credit card for a discount is a huge bonus for me.  Although I will be carefully reading the terms before agreeing to any access to my banking information. It does look promising though and will help those mourning the loss of HBC Rewards from shopping at Zellers. You can apply online for them before the new Target stores open, apply for the new Mastercard at RBC branches or apply in store once they open.

Joe Fresh Canada: Branching Out To USA

Joe Fresh is branching the brand out to USA retailers in 2013.  They are planning on opening upwards of 700 stores! This is huge, generally Canadian stores don’t branch out Stateside. I’m wondering if it’s a good move for them or not.

Loblaw’s Joe Fresh clothing brand announced Wednesday it has formed a partnership with U.S. retailer J.C. Penney Co. (NYSE: JCP) to open 700 stores in the U.S. in 2013 that will run for four years.

Nordstrom Is Coming To Canada

Just announced yesterday by the Globe and Mail.  Nordstrom is coming to Canada!

Upscale Nordstrom plans to launch its first stores here at the Pacific Centre in Vancouver, Chinook Centre in Calgary and Ottawa’s Rideau Centre – whose leases Sears sold back to landlord Cadillac Fairview Corp. this year for $170-million – as well as Sherway Gardens mall in Toronto, industry sources said.

Thanks Bg, for the heads up.

I’m a little disappointed this summer they aren’t doubling the points on the Splashers swim diapers. Last fall I loaded up huge when our local Walmart marked down packs to $4 and I had $2 coupons to use. But then again I guess they’re already doubling the Olympic diapers.

Beer Store Canada: Leukemia Bottle Drive, May 26th & 27th

***REPOST: Since the long weekend is here!***

During the last weekend of May, conveniently the weekend after May 2-4, The Beer Store is hosting an event where you can donate your empties (or cash) to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada! 100% of the proceeds will go to this charity. 🙂 Last year, they raised over $1.2 million dollars!

So I’m posting this to give you ample notice to put their bottles and cans aside for May 26th & 27th. If this is an organisation that is close to your heart, you may consider volunteering as well. Click here for more details on this charity bottle drive!

While out, the night before garbage day, I was this-close to picking up 2 cases of empties that some person put on their curb!!! What stopped me was that there were lights on and I didn’t want to infect my trunk with beer flies.

Giant Tiger Canada: Guess Who Is Price Matching? Let’s Give a Giant Hurray for Giant Tiger!

happy-rolling-tiger

I noticed something pretty big in my last Giant Tiger e-newsletter. They’re now price matching. Below are all the details.

“Your confidence in our pricing is critical and the Giant Value Guarantee is our promise to you!
Our Giant Value Guarantee means “We will beat the advertised price of any competitor!” If you happen to find a local competitor offering a lower price on any identical item we carry in-store, simply show us their current flyer and we will sell you that item for 1 cent less than their price. Why do we do that? Because delivering the most outstanding value for your family budget is our mission, every day. ”

Not applicable to clearance sales, percentage discounts, rebates, combination promotions (e.g. Buy 2, Get 1 Free), private label products, online offers, preferred customer discounts or random discounts (Scratch and Save events), or to competitor misprints, withdrawn or corrected advertisements. Applicable only to products currently in stock at your local Giant Tiger. We reserve the right to limit quantities. We reserve the right to make changes to this program without prior notice”. Local competitors reflect each stores’ market trading area within Canada as determined by Giant Tiger.

As you can see no mention of not being able to combine coupons with price matches, fingers crossed it stays that way. Unfortunately for me our local Giant Tiger happens to be where I have the worst luck with coupons. I guess they’ve gotten screwed over a few times and now they got to crack down on everyone. They comb over every one with a magnifying glass… literally one cashier pulls out a magnifying glass.

They’ve got a lot of great deals this week anyways for their 51th anniversary sale, see the flyer here. They also are offering an instore coupon for $10 off a purchase $40 clothing, accesories, and footwear.
