The unveiling of a new Apple product is probably the closest comparison that adult tech aficionados can draw to a child’s emotions the night before Christmas Day. Since the rumours of Apple’s newest technology innovation, the Apple Watch, were brought to fruition back in the fall, we have gained an increasing amount of information about this neat little gadget that will, as the CEO Tim Cook suggests, be a more intimate medium for communication.
Of all the new features that the Apple Watch boasts (texting, e-mailing, notifications and, let’s not forget, telling time) the one that most of us will undoubtedly be focused on is the actual aesthetics of the device. Judging from the teaser videos and limited press releases regarding the actual appearance of the Apple Watch, I think we will be satisfied with the opportunities we will have to customize the device, as there are currently 10 different faces available as well as three different leather straps, a stainless steel bracelet or a black or white band. The Apple Sport Model (one of the three different versions being sold) will have an anodized case so that it will be more resistant to damage during your workouts.
The other two versions being sold from Apple, the Apple Watch, and the higher-end, Apple Watch Edition, will range in price from $699 CAD to $1,459 for the Apple Watch and the more expensive Apple Watch Edition will start at around $13,000. The Sport will be the cheapest of the three ranging between $449 and $519 CAD.
Of all the hype that the Apple Watch is creating, the only feature that I can truly see setting it apart from the rest of the smart watches on the market is its KillerApp, which is an app that reminds you to stand up, exercise and generally get moving. Unlike other fitness apps that have notifications that pop up on your computer screen, this app from Apple will send ‘taps’ against your wrist until you listen to the app and get up and get going. Having this physical reminder to get up and move will be more efficient than simply closing a notification on your phone or computer.
Apart from being able to tell time within 50ms of universal standard time, the Apple Watch will also be equipped with Siri voice service, along with having an intelligent piece of technology called the Digital Crown that will essentially be able to detect the difference in your fingers from a ‘tap’ to a ‘press’. You will of course have to be in possession of an iPhone for the Apple Watch to work at its maximum ability, and it will be compatible with iPhone 5c, 5s, 6 and 6 plus.
While pre-ordering the Apple Watch begins on April 10th, you will be able to begin purchasing them in-store on April 24th in Canada.

Reiss, a UK retailer who has had the good fortune of dressing some of Hollywood’s and England’s own royalty in the past, like Kate Middleton, Eddie Redmayne and Whitney Port, is opening up their first Canadian location in Toronto’s very own Eaton Centre. The UK brand is considered to be a designer brand that sets its prices somewhat above its soon to be neighbour, Club Monaco, and significantly below the prices of the more lofty British designers that their apparel seems to embody, like Burberry.
The opening of this Canadian Reiss location, the only that has been confirmed so far, is set to open their doors sometime this year as the Eaton Centre finishes up their renovation of the 3rd and 4th floor. You can expect to find pieces for both men and women at Reiss, that will reflect trendy London street style along with more put together looks that you would expect to find on the likes of the Duchess of Cambridge.
You can check out a sampling of what to expect from the UK retailer here on their website, and if you simply cannot wait for them to open their doors in the next coming months, you should be aware that the shipping and handling rates will be a whopping $25.

This morning we made an awful discovery while browsing through the Websaver.ca website, and that was that one of Canada’s favourite online retailers for distributing mail-out coupons will no longer be offering mail-out coupons to your home. Sad and shocking, I know, but it is the truth. At least that’s what the situation will be for the next little while, as Websaver.ca is advertising that they will be bringing back mail-out coupons in a new format starting this April.
The mail-out coupons, as far as we can understand from the limited information that is being provided by Websaver.ca, will be part of the new VIP Mail to Home Club. Until then, however, you will have to instead print out your coupons on the site.
We’ll reveal more of the details pertaining to this VIP Mail to Home Club as they are made public by Websaver.ca, but until then you will have to wait patiently and utilize their print at home option for your coupons.

And so it continues, with the Target Canada reductions have now gone up to 40% off their original price during their final closeout sale, with some exceptions applying.
Select pieces will be going between 20%-40% off, but bear in mind that some of these prices may have been initially marked up, only to reflect a ‘discount’ that only appears larger than what it actually is. While this isn’t the nicest of things for consumers to have to deal with, it just means that you may have to do a bit more digging to find the really good deals hidden in Target’s liquidation sale. My advice? Always price compare! Especially before making bigger ticket purchases, it’s really rather easy to do a quick Google search to see if Walmart or Best Buy has prices that can beat Target’s closing ones.
It’s a sad time to have to finally face saying goodbye to Target, but at the very least during your time of mourning you should try to pick up some of their last minute hot deals before they completely leave Canada’s backyard.

Good news from VIA Rail Canada; for those of you who may have missed out on yesterday’s discounted Tuesday sale with VIA Rail, they have extended their offer and made the savings even bigger by offering you up to 55% off economy fares across Canada and on business class travel for the Quebec City – Windsor corridor.
This sale will be running until February 14th, 2015, making it an opportune time to book your Valentine’s Day getaway – should you not be able to travel this weekend, as the booking must be made 3 days in advance. You can, however, book your weekend getaway up until February 28th, 2015, and if you’re opting for the business class offer, you will only be allowed to travel on weekends (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays).
I was able to find the incredibly low price of $115.26 for a roundtrip ticket from Toronto Union Station to Montreal for a week long trip in the middle of February; as if you can’t afford to fly south, going somewhere beats sticking around home, am I right? The one-way fares for this trip were so low, it would almost be worthwhile to upgrade to business class, since it would only cost $99 each way, for a total of $198.

VIA Rail Canada is having another one of their great discount Tuesdays deals, where you can save on both Economy fare and Sleeper fare, should you book before midnight tonight and travel on the specified days set out by VIA Rail. Those days, if you are travelling on economy fare, are between February 11th up to February 17th, and if you are travelling on sleeper fare, you must travel between February 11th and March 10th.
If you’re needing to book a last minute trip, which is what this sale is really targeted for, then you should definitely check out VIA Rail’s prices before booking a flight. For instance, I was looking for last minute prices on a trip to Winnipeg from Toronto for this weekend, and while it does take longer to get there, the prices were nearly half that of if you were to book a flight.
I used Google Flight Tracker (every travel buddies best friend) to compare the airplane prices for the same trip that would be leaving on February 11th and returning for February 17th. The flights for this trip, on average, would’ve cost $773, while a train trip would cost you $375.90 (taxes included).

The latest in the line of companies going bankrupt or pulling out of Canada: RedBox announced that they are leaving Canada. I know many people have free rental coupons from various promotions, so if you have one, you need to use it by February 13th.
You will have 20 days from the rental date, or until March 5th for recent rentals, to return any outstanding rentals or pay the full purchase price ($30 + tax for DVDs, $40 + tax for Blu-ray). If your RedBox disappears before March 5th, you can contact them to return your rentals. They say that the Canadian market just doesn’t have the remand they need to make it profitable.
If you bought a TeamBuy deal for RedBox, they are offering refunds, but no refunds will be given for other free promo codes (they recently gave out 10 free rentals as prizes for a contest etc).
