Canada’s Largest Burger

Canada's Largest Burger

The record for Canada’s largest burger was broken by Tommy Burger’s in Alberta. This burger weighs a whopping 141.73 lbs. Good thing we have free health insurance in Canada because whoever consumes this burger will need it.

Most Touching Speech at Michael Jackson’s Memorial

Although I was personally very saddened by the death of Michael Jackson, I’ve avoided posting about this unfortunate event on the SmartCanucks blog since I think the media has more than saturated us with this. However, I was very touched by one speech in yesterday’s memorial. Michael’s daughter’s  words made me sad, but the tribute that touched my heart the most was Brooke shields’:

“how i could be a canadian”

As you guys know I have a “Suggest a Deal” form on the blog’s sidebar where people can let me know of any good deals out there. You’d never imagine how many none related messages I get through this form. People send messages asking for help, attaching a picture of their babies or some random picture or saying random meaningless stuff. It’s just pretty amusing really 😛

Yesterday I got the weirdest message so far. The title of the message was “how i could be a canadian” and here’s the message:

dear sir or madam  im very in love to be a canadian in my whole life i loved  canada in my blood .there is no a day that could pass me without thinking or even saying to my self i wish i could be a canadian citizen. maybe  my life could be easy in looking for  work  and help my family .i wish i was born in canada .oh canada i love you  deep in my heart .if god could destroy all the countries i would plead for your mercy.and not get harm  i love you canada always

And attached with the above message was this picture (I censored their faces to protect their privacy).

Huh??

Seriously what the heck is this about?

Local Woman Detained because of SmartCanucks

Patty Smyth just messaged me about this. We desperately need London Drugs stores in Ontario and the Eastern provinces before this incident starts recurring.

Td Canada Trust customers need to boost your savings? How about $200 in free cash?

debit equalspiggy-bank-160

I was on the Td Canada Trust website tonight and I spotted this cool new program. Basically everytime you use your debit or make a ATM withdrawl you can choose an amount to put in your savings anywhere from 50 cents to five bucks each transaction! Not only that but if you sign up before July 24th for every $100 dollars you save in the next year Td Canada Trust will give you an extra 10 smackers up to a maximum of $200!

I’ve seen this program on commercials in the USA for Chase bank and always thought it was pretty neat!  I’m an avid debit card user and I signed up starting at $1 deposits each time I use my card.  We already participate in pre- authorized transfers from our chequings to savings with Pc Financial but this just seems so much easier and less noticeable!  Maybe I’ll need to shop more to save more hahaha!  Wish me luck.

Canadian Discount Stores: Giant Tiger Vs Bargain Shop

boxing2

Last night I got thinking (something I do on occasion.) Giant Tiger and Bargain Shop are quite similar but which one is better?

I have found over the past few years Giant Tiger has become a lot larger and doesn’t get in as many name brand clothing anymore. I remember 3 years ago seeing a full “Rocawear” sweatsuit for $29.99  retail of $129.99 of course it was absolutely the most hideous shade of brown ever but thats not the point lol. Now this is just going by my local GT but the products now seem the be in “house” brands.

More recently I’ve been popping into The Bargain Shop and have been pleasantly surprised at their prices and brand names for purchase. Just to name drop  some of the brands of clothing I saw last night:

  • H&M
  • Disney
  • Nascar
  • Dickies
  • Puma
  • FUBU
  • Carters
  • CAT
  • Nike
  • OshKosh

All at awesome prices, ranging from $4.97-$9.97!   Right now with people being more frugal then ever I thought it is great that you don’t have to sacrifice your name brands if you don’t want to.  I know especially for kids clothes I’ll be popping into the Bargain Shop more often to see what new stock they have in!

Is there any other discont stores that sell name brands at a discount?

What do you prefer Giant Tiger or the Bargain Shop?

Canada Family Events: Day out with Thomas tickets still available St Thomas Ontario.

thomas

Calling all Thomas the train fans (adults and children alike!) Tickets are still available for July 17-19 and July 24-26 .

A day out with Thomas consists of a 20 minute train ride on ”Thomas” and activities for the wee ones such as music.

The train stops in St Thomas Ontario at the Elgin County Railway Museam, and appears to be the only Canadian venue left for the year.

Tickets are $20 each and children under 2 are free. Click here for more info and to purchase.

While I know this isn’t a ”deal”  every few days I am going to try to post a summer activity that is not over 20$ a person and or free (free is so much better!)

Do you have a a pocket friendly family summer event that you’d like posted? Email me at Sally at Smartcanucks.ca and I will try my best to accomodate.

SmartCanucks Caption Challenge: Week 21

Disney

Sorry Jim I had to steal your caption challenge this week! I couldn’t resist not sharing this picture and reading the comments 😀

HBO Canada: True Blood (Twilight Fans Will Enjoy This Show)

HBO Canada True Blood

I had the urge to post about this right after Jim’s weekly McDonald’s Mondays post. Don’t ask me why 😈

There’s a relatively new show on HBO Canada that I strongly recommend if you enjoyed reading the Twilight series. That show is called True Blood and is based on the Southern Vampire Book Series by Charlaine Harris  Thanks to a Japanese scientist’s invention of synthetic blood, vampires have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight. And while humans have supposedly been removed from the menu, many remain apprehensive about these creatures “coming out of the coffin.” Religious leaders and government officials around the world have chosen their sides.

This isn’t your typical story and that’s what I like about it. I’m also a fan of the Twilight series so this seems to fit in nicely. Season One’s over and Season Two starts on June 14th, 2009. You can get Season 1 from torrents Amazon.ca or any DVD store.

Would you wear this Shirt?

American Apparel Shirt Canada

I was chatting with @roseofblack today and she suggested I get the American Apparel Shirt pictured above. She thinks the “sexy belly top” shirt is unique and fashionable; I’d rather jump out of a window than go out wearing that shirt.

Ladies what do you think of this shirt?  Guys would you wear it? 😛

Found Him!

Waldo Canada

I knew Waldo was busy building an army the whole time 😀

I came across this picture on Digg and being a huge fan of Waldo (aka Wally for brits), I couldn’t resist but blog about this! I’ve spent hundreds of my childhood hours looking for Waldo and this brings back a lot of great memories.

Students, faculty, and staff at Rutgers University tried to break the Guinness World Record for the largest number of people dressed as Waldo at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, N.J., Thursday. More than 1,000 people participated. The children’s character has been around for 21 years.
