While the Victoria Day long weekend is traditionally the first time we start to see garage sales pop up, last week was surprisingly quiet on the used goods front. But this weekend? I opened my front door and saw three of my neighbours with their lawns and driveways littered with trinkets and old chairs.
As I did my daily errands around town, yard sales were everywhere. Certainly more so than I remember in years gone by. Maybe it’s the economy? People need to get quick cash and people are looking to spend less money. It seems like the perfect solution for both parties.

They’ve recently added some more dates to the free Movies on the Square. Usually they don’t know what movies will be shown until closer to the actual date so stay tuned for updates. I’m wading through my bookmarks to find a link for more free movies in more areas so be patient and stay tuned!

I’ve gone to a few of these and they’re pretty fun! They have a huge inflatable movie screen set up in Churchill Square and you bring a lawn chair, blankets, whatever. They sell cheap snacks on site including popcorn and canned pop and candy. They sell glow necklaces, too. Before the movie, they (smartly so) have about an hour of entertainment for the kids like putting contests and right before the show a super dance-off to wear them right out. It’s awesome! Fun to watch the kids dance and it makes the movie watching experience so much better because the kids aren’t running around. Even the bums stop by and watch. Can’t beat a free flick no matter what your circumstances!
