Costco Canada Recalls Pekkle Brand Sleepers For Full Refund

You’ll remember how we posted the other day about an incident where a parent reported their child being scratched by one of the faulty Pekkle infant sleepers sold by Costco Canada. Well, as was rightfully suspected, the company responsible for manufacturing these sleepers, Lemur Group, is now formally recalling all of the sleepers sold at Costco between April 29, 2016 and April 14, 2017.

Lemur Group describes this in their letter as being a voluntary recall, as the metal snaps on the infant sleepers have been reported to fall off in some cases, which could potentially lead to your child being scratched (as was the case with the parent who initially filed the claim) or choking. There have been no choking cases reported, however.

If you’ve bought one of these Pekkle infant sleepers from Costco in the past year, then here’s what you’ll need to do to claim your full refund:

  • first, stop using the sleeper immediately
  • second, take the suspected sleeper to your nearest Costco location (it needn’t be the one that you originally bought it from)
  • and lastly, you will receive your refund

They do not say that you need any proof of purchase, like a receipt, but if you are concerned about this you can email [email protected] or call the customer assistance line, toll free, at 1-844-483-3868.

Tim Hortons Offering Mother’s Day Timbits Bouquet

Tim Hortons in the US (and hopefully Canada with some good pressure from us Canadian customers) will be fashioning 24 of their best flavoured timbits into a ‘bouquet’ on Sunday, May 14 to help celebrate Mother’s Day, but again, this offer will only be available at participating locations that are south of the border.

The bouquet will cost $7.99 and will include flavours like Cinnamon Sugar, Apple Fritter, Old Fashioned Plain, Chocolate Glazed, and Honey Dip.

Would you buy a Mother’s Day timbit bouquet if they were being offered north of the border?

Shoppers Drug Mart to Start Selling Presto Cards

The TTC’s monthly passes are expected to be migrated from Metropasses to Presto later this year.

Costco Canada Pulls Pekkle Baby Pajamas After Complaint Filed That Child Was Scratched by Product

After a complain was lodged on April 11, 2017 by a concerned parent who noticed their child had developed a scratch from one of Costco’s most popular baby clothing lines, the wholesale giant has made the decision to pull the product from the floor.

Earlier in April a parent noticed that their child had been scratched by one of Pekkle’s baby sleepers and as result of the injury an internal investigation into the matter is underway at the Montreal line’s parent company, Lemur.

A Lemur spokesperson said that they take the matter very seriously and that as soon as they learned about the problem with the clothing line they took all of the possibly affected product off the market.

Health Canada is currently weighing whether or not further action will be required after the internal investigation, but they are reportedly working very closely with Lemur and Costco to ensure a speedy and transparent recovery from the problem.

Meanwhile, on social media, Canadians seem to be having a mixed bag of reactions to the incident with Pekkle sleepwear:

Canadian Shopping News: EXPRESS Shutting Down All Canadian Stores

Express Canada Stores Closing

All EXPRESS stores in Canada will likely be gone in as little as six weeks as the company filed for creditor protection in Canada.  Stores remain open in the US but the tough Canadian market coupled with high exchange rates plus increasing rent costs in malls mean that they will not be attempting the long drawn out bankruptcy we have experienced with other brands.

EXPRESS expects to start closing stores mid May with employees being paid until at least mid June.  Don’t expect sales right away, they said the sales will begin in a week or so.

The chain says they will honour gift cards through the liquidation process but gave no information on if they will offer refunds.  Sales may not start right away, but you may want to keep an eye on your local store’s closing date to use them up.  Once stores close, Canadian customers will still be able to shop Express on their website.

Jane’s Walk Across Canada This Weekend

Join the next global Jane’s Walk festival on May 5th, 6th and 7th, 2017. Jane’s Walk is a movement of free, citizen-led walking tours inspired by Jane Jacobs. The walks get people to tell stories about their communities, explore their cities, and connect with neighbours. Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) was an urbanist and activist whose writings championed a fresh, community-based approach to city building.

Jane’s Walks are free, locally organized walking tours, in which people get together to explore, talk about and celebrate their neighbourhoods. Where more traditional tours are a bit like walking lectures, a Jane’s Walk is more of a walking conversation. Leaders share their knowledge, but also encourage discussion and participation among the walkers.

A Jane’s Walk can focus on almost any aspect of a neighbourhood, and on almost any topic you can think of. Walks can be serious or funny, informative or exploratory; they can look at the history of a place, or at what’s happening there right now.  Anyone can lead a walk — because everyone is an expert on the place where they live!
