A couple of days ago I came across a group of people walking around giving Free Hugs in K-town. I love the whole concept and was ecstatic to see it live especially in a small town like Kingston 😀
Did you ever come across a Free Hugs campaign in your city/town?
Here’s the video for the third time on SmartCanucks:

With the prices of gasoline continuing to soar, we all have to find ways to make the gas last longer so that we don’t end up going broke!Â
1. Drive Less – Now, this is pretty obvious, but alot of people are still driving the same amount as they were when gas was cheaper. If the price of gasoline is killing your budget, cut out all unneccessary trips!
2. Combine Errands – Instead of running out a few times per week to run errands, try to do them all in one day at the same time. This will not only save you gas, but time as well!
3. Maintain Your Vehicle – Pump up those tires! Under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.4 percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four tires.
4. Drive Light – Remove all of the excess weight in your vehicle. An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle could reduce your MPG by up to 2 percent!
5. Cruise Control – This wonderful option that comes with most cars is ideal for helping you maintain a constant speed and will save you some gas.
6. Drive Smart – Avoid speeding and fast acceleration/braking. This can lower your gas mileage by 5-30% depending on where you are driving. Driving responsibly saves you gas and is also safer.
7. Carpool – Go grocery shopping with your neighbour and go to work with a co-worker. Anything helps. Split the trips each week and this will help save gas and money!
8. Take The Bus – If you are really trying to save money, take the bus instead of your car. Sure it might take you a bit longer to get where you want to go, but you will save buckets of money. Even just a few times a week would help!

When you move into a new place, or when you get bored of the furniture you currently own, it’s fun to redecorate. Unfortunetely, this does not come cheap. That is, unless you’re frugal with your choices of decor. Here are some places that you can get great items for your home at fantastic prices:
1. Thrift Stores – Thrift stores are great when looking for things to spread around your home. Of course, if you’re looking for larger pieces of furniture, this is probably not your best bet, as there isn’t a wide variety of items, but if you are looking for decor items such as photos, vases, etc. this is the perfect place!
2. Yard Sales – Just like the thrift stores, yard sales are best for smaller decor items, but you can get lucky and find some really nice larger furniture as well. Make an offer lower than the listed price, and 9 times out of 10, they will take it.
3. Freecycle – This is the best place to get FREE furniture. That’s right, absolutely free, no strings attatched! Subscribe to the posts and you will get an email whenever a new freebie is added. Act fast though, free stuff always goes quick!
Last week’s accidental return of McDonald’s Mondays was met with a surprising amount of enthusiasm, so I thought we’d try and bring it back for a little bit and see how it plays out.

This weeks entry lets me showcase one of my favorite pieces of freeware gaming: Line Rider.
Line Rider is a brilliant little game that lets you draw complicated pictures and paths that a little tobogganer will attempt to safely navigate through gravity and natural physics. If you pop Line Rider into YouTube you’ll see thousands of brilliant images and designs that have been created in Line Rider — everything from the Mona Lisa to Super Mario Bros World 1-1.
I’ve got to admit — even I was taken aback by how hip and in touch with the internet meme McDonald’s must be to create a television ad using only Line Rider. Kudos, McMarketing department!

Starting today and running through the month of June, Blockbuster Canada will be offering a Buy Two Get One Free promotion on all of it’s used DVD’s and games. This will be replacing the current 25% off promotion, and if you don’t mind buying titles at the same price point in groups of three it works out better financially. Different priced items will still work, but since you’ll be getting the cheapest one free you’re going to lose that slight edge over last months promo.
Just a heads up — mixing and matching games and DVD’s won’t work with this offer. You’ ll need to pick up each in bundles of three to get one of them free.
Tips to maximize your savings:
1. Find stores that have rewards programs – I shop at The Barn (Air Miles), Shopper’s Drug Mart (Optimum Points), Zellers (HBC Rewards) and Real Canadian Superstore (PC Points). Of course, I shop at other stores as well if they have great deals, but I love the above stores because of their rewards programs.
2. Combine coupons with sales – This is the number one way that you will receive great savings. Know when your stores’ flyers come out and compare these sales with the coupons you have on hand. If you have a bunch of coupons for a sale item and the price, after coupon, makes the item free or close to it, go ahead and grab a bunch and stock up.

With father’s day right around the corner, I’m sure there are many of you still wondering what to get that great father of yours. Am I right? Here are some ideas that won’t leave you scrambling for money under the cushions.
1. Photo Frame – All parents love and appreciate photos of their children. So why not take a very special photo of your father and yourself and put it in a nice, but inexpensive frame? This kind of gift will never go out of style!
2. Gift Basket – All those freebies and cheap items you’ve been getting from couponing are taking up too much space in your home, so why not give your dad a basket filled with things he can use. You don’t really need 30 razors do you? Give dad a few! Shaving cream, shampoo, soaps, toothpaste and much more can go in these baskets and since you paid next do nothing for these items, this is a very frugal gift idea!
