Katy Perry’s California Gurls. Has Snoop Dog lost all street cred?

cupcakesuit

So once in a while us bloggers here at Smart Canucks about life in general or quirky things we come across on our daily adventures. Today I’d like to touch upon something really really serious. What happened to Snoop Dog did he hit his head has he smoked too much herb?

Snoop has been around for literally decades, rolling with his homies, sipping on gin and juice. He’s got some serious “street cred” thats for sure. Years ago when he filmed movies such as “Bones” and “Soul Plane” I did question such street cred he’s built up, but the movies seemed to be well accepted so I let it go.  They were just horrible movies.

Most recently he did a colab with Katy Perry, a really upbeat song “California Gurls”  that has been rocking the charts for about a month or so. I don’t mind it, his rhymes are pretty mindless but I didn’t expect much. I decided to watch the video, this is when I was so shocked I literally couldn’t stop laughing.  (Haven’t seen it? Click here.) Snoop Dog in  a cupcake suit. Yes a cupcake suit. I think hes lost street cred. What do you think? Do you think Snoop can rock a “gangsta” cupcake suit?  I think he can rock it, but I can’t see him hanging with his homies in it, thats for sure.

How Secure are your Passwords?

How Secure is my Password is a very simple yet interesting website. Enter your password or one you’re thinking of using and it will tell you how good your password is and how long it would take to crack.

Most 4 letter profanities are within the 500 most common passwords and can be cracked almost instantly:

University of Ottawa Scientists Discover Something Everybody Already Knows

Zombies Canada

As a graduate student and researcher I’ve come across loads of nonsense research papers that are worth less than the paper they were printed on. You’d be surprised how much of our tax money the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) wastes on utter and absolute rubbish.

The paper I’m about to present is actually not as bad as some other papers I’ve come across since it’s clear, well written and has a little bit of humour behind it I assume/hope.

A few scientists from the Department of Mathematics and Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University published a paper entitled “When Zombies Attack!: Mathematical Modelling of an Outbreak of Zombie Infection“. They conclude that:

An outbreak of zombies infecting humans is likely to be disastrous, unless extremely aggressive tactics are employed against the undead. While aggressive quarantine may eradicate the infection, this is unlikely to happen in practice. A cure would only result in some humans surviving the outbreak, although they will still coexist with zombies. Only sufficiently frequent attacks, with increasing force, will result in eradication, assuming the available resources can be mustered in time.

Congratulations on using mathematical models to deduce what everyone already knows about a Sci-Fi creature! I’m guessing you guys have never watched a hollywood Zombie movie before?

Hmmm… why am I so angry?… oh right, it’s the boredom of writing my equally useful thesis that’s making me feel like a Zombie 😛

*SmartCanucks Community* Proud To Be Canadian Shelter Bags

If you’re new to SmartCanucks.ca I thought I’d let you know about the wonderful and caring community we have on here. I have come across some very generous and kind people who help those less fortunate than ourselves. Here’s what our marvelous member eriluo did in her own words:

For those new to the board, I put together shelter packs full of toiletries for a local 10 bed women’s shelter, by buying products using coupons when everything is relatively inexpensive Thanks to a lot of donations of coupons and products, from wonderful SC’rs on the board, I have been able to donate over $2500 or more worth of stuff to the shelter since last September. This has helped both the women and the shelter’s budget at the same time!

Well, thanks again to all the wonderful, generous coupon Random Acts of Kindness (RAOKs) I have received since then, it didn’t take me long to rebuild my stash and get all my stuff together for the latest shelter offering.

So, in celebration of our native land and being inspired by Giant Tiger’s “Proud To Be Canadian” bags, I have assembled 12 shelter stash gift bags to be delivered later this morning to the shelter in honour of Canada Day!

Here is what I put together this time around:

12 assorted Shave Gels
12 Bic Bella Razor pkgs
12 Dove Nutrium Body Washes
12 assorted 2-in-1 Shampoo/Conditioners
12 pkgs. assorted Stayfree Maxi Pads
12 assorted Deodorants
12 Crest toothpastes
12 Colgate toothbrushes
12 assorted Face Masks
12 assorted Body Lotions

12 “Proud To Be Canadian” Shopping Bags from GT
12 assorted Teas
12 assorted Chocolate Bars
12 pkgs. Halls

How the bag looks like fully assembled!

How the bag looks like from the inside!

How all 12 bags look like grouped together!

Last but not least, a bag that echo my sentiments on how I feel today = Proud to be a Canadian!

Thanks again to everyone who has supported me along the way, through coupons, products and morale support! You all exemplify what it is to be a Canadian too, so Happy Canada Day Everyone!

***************************************

Update: Bags have been delivered!

I brought them to the shelter this morning and the shelter staff member who greeted me, I know, and she said that the bags are so appreciated by the residents and that they are so grateful for the donation! Hearing that made my day, but that wasn’t all…

She gave me the following card:

Toronto to Ottawa to Montreal Earthquake – Did you feel it?

Earthquake Toronto Ottawaquake_drop

This is the strongest earthquake I’ve ever personally experienced… pretty scary feeling. I can’t imagine how people feel  in major earthquakes.

Did you feel the earthquake?

See the crop of a traffic graph on the right? We had a noticeable blip (as in the drop in this blog’s traffic) just at the same time as the earthquake, around 13:41 ET, followed by a spike about half an hour later. Neat.

Apple iPhone 4 in Canada: Will you be buying one? And why doesn’t Canada get it in June?!

iPhone 4 Canada

As some of you guys probably already know, iPhone 4 has been announced today and will be launched on June 24 in 5 countries: US, France, Germany, UK and Japan. Canada gets it a month later in July with 18 other countries. I really don’t understand how three European countries and Japan get the iPhone on launch day and Canada which is closer to the US  doesn’t! I’m guessing it’s probably because of our unreliable wireless provider Rogers that might need more time to prepare or something.

In the US iPhone 4 will retail at $199 for the 16GB model and $299 FOR THE 32GB one. That’s of course with a 3 year 2 year contract.

Once the iPhone 4 makes it to Canada will you be buying one?

Will Subway Canada Finally Place Cheese Properly on Sandwiches?

2 years ago I wrote a blog post complaining about the way cheese was placed on Subway sandwiches.

Subway Canada Cheese

According to the consumerist it seems like Subway in Australia has finally listened to its customers and starting on July 1st, 2010 cheese will be tessellated on sandwiches. Hopefully Subway Canada will start doing the same too! This is usually all I can think of when at Subway! The unnecessary cheese overlap and missing coverage .. Yep I’m a nerd 😀

Beaners – Fun Cuts for Kids – Update

Thank you everyone for helping me address the Beaners issues earlier today.

I decided to remove all the posts because I felt the comments became very negative, got out of hand and were unnecessarily hurting Beaners business. They might have acted stupidly but they still don’t deserve all that negativity.

I also did some research and found out that the lawyer has just graduated from law school last year and it would suck hurting her reputation with her clients.

Shoppers Drug Mart Cuts Hours and Adds Delivery Fees In Ontario

drugs

So Shoppers Drug Mart today in London Ontario cut hours, and added a delivery fee of $5 for prescriptions, and $10 for non prescription items. Why? Because they are throwing a hissy fit over Ontarios Health Minister announcement last week to cut costs of generic prescription drug costs at least half. Making it more affordable for all walks of life in Ontario to have access to medications. This means less cash in the pockets of Shoppers Drug Mart therefore the huge panic. Up until this announcement pharamcies were paid “cash bonuses” and “perks” for dispensing generic drugs and Government officials have decided to nix this.

So basically Shopper’s way of fighting back was to start the first cut backs and extra fees in the Health Ministers Deb Matthews hometown of London. Immature in my books but this is nothing new of Shoppers Drug Mart.

What are your feelings on this issue? Do you think Shopper’s is in the wrong or right? Do you think they needed to act so quickly? No Shopper’s Drug Mart employees were available for comment for television interviews tonight.  (Guess they were all too busy?)

I did however like Health Minister Deb Matthews comment that Shoppers Drug Mart needs to fight this with the government, not their customers.

Heres some news articles for further information:

Look forward to hearing your comments!

15 Items or Less? Wrong!

After you watch this video your grocery shopping will never be the same 😀

I didn’t know that “X items or less” is a grammatically incorrect sentence! I think most stores still use that sentence. Interestingly, the correct version “X items or fewer”  doesn’t feel right 😛

Does your local grocery store use the incorrect version of the sentence?

Maybe that’s why some idiots people use the the express lane even when they have more than the maximum number of items specified.

Earth Hour: March 27, 2010 at 8:30pm Did you take part this year?

earth-hour-logo

Earth Hour took place this year again, it was tonight at 8:30-9:30pm. Earth Hour is a global event organized by the World Wildlife Fund, which is held every year on the last Saturday of March. The event revolves around taking action on climate change by asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour. Toronto had a concert set up this year for people that wanted to part in this event. It’s really neat seeing on the news all the cities around the world turning off some of their lights. I think it’s a good cause, even for an hour, an hour isn’t a lot at all. More than anything, it is about awareness.

For more information, click here.

Did you take part in Earth Hour this year? What do you think of it?
