Champs and Presidents Choice Canada Recall: Sliced Mushrooms Recalled Due to Listeria Concerns *URGENT*

Announcements 0 comments

champs-mushroom-recall

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recently issued a recall on sliced mushrooms sold by President’s Choice and Champs due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The contaminated products are mainly sold in British Columbia, but may also have been sold in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and other provinces.

The recall is on the following products:

  • Champ’s Mushrooms Sliced Crimini Mushrooms, 200 grams.
  • Champ’s Mushrooms Sliced Crimini Mushrooms, 227 grams.
  • Champ’s Mushrooms Sliced Mini Bella Mushrooms 680 grams.
  • President’s Choice Cremini Sliced Mushrooms, 454 grams.

az

If you have the products in question in your home, you are advised to throw them out, or to return them to the store in which you purchased them. Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women and the elderly are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation at this time, so this recall could be expanded. They are also verifying that the prodcut is removed from the marketplace. So far no illnesses have been reported.

175 GAP Stores CLOSING in Canada & USA

GAP

Gap Canada has recently announced that the company plans to shut down 175 stores in North America in the company’s namesake store as well as cutting over 250 jobs at its headquarters in an attempt to strengthen the struggling brand. This is the second big closure Gap Inc. has announced this year, following their shut down of Piperlime earlier this year. Gap Inc. owns not only Gap stores, but also Old Navy and Banana Republic. 140 Gap stores will close by January 31, 2016 and the remainder afterwards. The closing stores will mostly be decided by performance and location. The company is also closing an undisclosed amount in Europe.

This latest move is the latest attempt to shake up the struggling company. Following the decision to close Piperlime, Gap has shaken up its management ranks: Art Peck became CEO in February and leadership of the Gap and Banana Republic brands was changed. The company also has been working to overhaul its fashions across all brands to increase appeal.

The HQ job losses will save Gap approximately $25 million per year. The closing stores are responsible for about $300 million per year in sales out of a total $16 billion.

Gap has not mentioned whether the employees in affected stores will be transferred to different locations, or laid off. Gap Factory and Gap Outlet stores will not be affected, nor will Gap’s other brands.

Health Canada Recall: Allerject Anaphylaxis Medication Recalled Due to Manufacturing Defect *URGENT*

Announcements 1 comment

allerject

Health Canada has issued a recall involving two lots of Allerject (0.15 mg / 0.15 mL auto-injector) products due to a manufacturing error that could be preventing the product from working properly. The recalled Allerject medication was distributed by Sanofi-aventis Canada Inc. since June 1, 2015 and the lot numbers in question are 2857508, 2857505 and DIN 02382059.

Allerject is typically used in the emergency treatment of anaphylaxis in children and works by reversing the rapid and dangerous decrease in blood pressure and relaxing the muscles in the airway during an allergic reaction. The manufacturing defect may prevent the product from working, and serious anaphylaxis may cause death if not immediately treated. Parents with the affected Allerject products are advised to take them to their pharmacy for replacements as soon as possible.

Blacks Canada Closure: Blacks Photography To Shut Down All 59 Stores

blacks

There’s some unfortunate news just released today. Blacks Photography Canada has just announced that they will be closing all 59 of their store locations. Blacks tried to overhaul their stores last year and have made attempts to evolve in the new digital age, but unfortunately they haven’t been able to realize a profitable enough growth. Unfortunately attempts to find a buyer for Blacks have failed as well.

The closure will leave approximately 485 employees without jobs, but Telus, Blacks’ parent company, will attempt to find employees spots at other outlets such as Telus or Koodo. Others who cannot be found positions will be offered a “transition package”.

Right now there is no word about how Blacks will unload their remaining merchandise, or when the sales will start. All stores are expected to close on August 8, 2015.

At Dunkin Donuts, you will have to purchase a beverage to receive your free doughnut this Friday, June 5th, while at Krispy Kreme you simply have to show up and request your free doughnut. Both stores will only offer one free doughnut per customer, but there will be several participating locations across the country so you could very well try to hit up a couple of shops that are in your area, if you have the time and the room for more doughnuts!

There have also been reports that if you mention National Doughnut Day at Tim Hortons that you may be eligible to receive a free doughnut as well – but we have only heard of this being possible at their U.S. locations so far. Still, if you find yourself inside a Tim Hortons on Friday it’s worth a mention, as all you have to lose is a free doughnut!
